Fix for the missing/mismatched album art in Zune2 player

This has been posted elsewhere, but I thought it's worth posting again to make sure you see it. I really like the new player, but of course I would not if it was displaying the wrong album art Smile [:)]

There's a file that contains metadata about your tracks. If you delete that while the client is not running then restart the client, it is rebuilt automatically. It does NOT delete your music, just the metadata. Here are the instructions. Please make a copy of the file before deleting it.

In XP Zune2 software stores it's databases in the folders

XP        C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Zune\
Vista     C:\Users\<User Name> AppData\Local\Microsoft\Zune\

  • Exit Zune2 software
  • Rename the following two files in the correct folder above:
    •  ren ZuneStore.sdf ZuneStore.sdf.old
    • ren CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb.old
  • Restart Zune2 software and it will rebuild your collection.

Let me know how it goes.

What is the name of "the file"?

I have a lot of files in that folder.

re: Fix for the missing/mismatched album art in Zune2 player
Mine looks fixed now, here's what I did:

1. Went to "Settings" and made sure to uncheck "automatically update album..." and removed all of my music folders.

2.  Delete all the songs in my "collection" (said keep files but remove from collection, not delete completely).  Some wouldn't delete no matter what, so I left them.  Control-A didn't work, so I just selected one, then clicked Shift-Page up a few times, deleted the songs and repeated till all of them that would delete were gone.

3.  Closed the Zune Software.

4.  Opened my main music directory in explorer.  Make it so you overall music folder is the only one visible.

5.  Right-click and search.  Go to advanced and tell it to find .jpg files.  Search, delete them all from the search and empty the recycle bin.

6. Repeat, but this time look for .ini files.

7.  Open Itunes.  Delete all the music from the library, again telling it to not throw them in the recycle bin.

8.  Go into the Itunes options and Advanced.  Point it to you music directory and tell it to auto-organize your music based on tags.  Then import all your music to Itunes.  Let it do its thing, then close Itunes.

9.  Grab a program like NukeEmptyFolders, open it, and set the directory to your main music directory.  Run it and delete all the empty folders.  Close.

10. Open the Zune software.  Go to Settings and add your music folder.

The music it added this time had the correct info in it.  I'm assuming they're all correct, but I haven't gone through 2000+ albums, but so far they're all good.

Of course, the first way in the main post may be easier.

No, that's totally separate. You will lose your song ratings, but nothing else.

And the file you want to delete is called ZuneStore.sdf.

Mixed reports, seems like this fixes it for about 75% of the people though.
