Issues upgrading to firmware ver. 2.2(1040)

I've searched google, searched the forums, searched Microsoft. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I've attempted to upgrade the firmware from version 1.2 (434) to 2.2 (1040) through the Zune software. Each time I encountered synch problems. I uninstalled the software and installed version 2.1.888.2 of the Zune software. I again attempted to upgrade the firware and received the following error message:

Error Summary:
An unknown error occurred. For more info,  click Web Help.
Error code: C00D11CD

I've also followed the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926770?sd=zune

I've also tried to reset the Zune, resynch, tried different USB ports, verified cabeling. I can pretty much do everything with the Zune such as moving music around but I can't update the firmware. Thanks!

re: Issues upgrading to firmware ver. 2.2(1040)

I'm having the same exact problem...just bought my 80GB Zune today and can't get past this.  Although I have not tried everything that PacificRim tried.

As a side note...when I go to 'settings' on the device, I get no option for 'options' as it appears that I should.

I was hoping to use this tonight on the drive home.

Please help

Can we say Zune blows? My next step is to call support.

re: Issues upgrading to firmware ver. 2.2(1040)

Update: I called Zune support at their 877 number to submit a case. Basically the support rep had me jump through all the typical hurdles that I went through before. Different USB ports, resetting the device, resych, device manager, restart Background Intellegence service, explained that I had to upgrade from the old software to the new software because the firmware install failed, created a new local admin account and a new profile. The final straw was wiping the device and attempting to install the firmware. That failed. They are sending me a lovely cardboard funeral box to ship my Zune to them for repairs or a direct swap. Unfortunately, if you have the same firmware issues as me, you will need to call. What's really funny is my old ipod still works. hhhhhmmmmmmmm

re: Issues upgrading to firmware ver. 2.2(1040)

I'm not exactly sure where to start expressing my displeasure with Zune support and this crappy device. I submitted a call on 12/19/07 jumping through all the ridculous hurdles which I already "DID" on two seperate workstations. The tech had me do a hard reset which pretty much hosed everything and the firmware was still not applied! He tells me a box will be shipped to me for an RMA. Fast forward to 1/10/08 and I still don't have a damn box in my hands. I call this morning and the first tech attempted to transfer me to her supervisor and it hung up. The second time I get a completely untrained person who attempts to troubleshoot the problem AGAIN and then begins to ask me for a RECEIPT! WTF?? Do you not read case notes? Did I not repeat more than 2 times I didn't get a box? Then the supervisor wanted to troubleshoot with me! What in the hell? I already did troubleshooting for nearly 2 hours and you want to test it again? I really hope you Zune techs are reading this. Wake up! Get trained on customer service, being detailed orientated, and know the product you are supporting!  I will never in my life buy another Microsoft crappy appliance again.
