I'd like to voice my opinion on several issues pertaining to the zune. I was extremely excited about the zune 80 when I found out about it and purchased one as soon as they came out. I am pleased with the overall design and interface of the zune80. However, I have found the software on my computer very cumbersome and non-user friendly. I am disappointed that movies purchased on the iTunes store are unable to play on the zune. While the file type is supported, the media rights between the zune and iTunes do no sync and allow for use. This is certainly upsetting considering I spent the money and time to download a movie on iTunes only so I could play in on the beautiful zune80 screen.
To go along with that, I am VERY disappointed with the zune's ability to match album art to the correct mp3 file. While I like the feature, its sad when I use the feature as comical relief to see what album art comes up for the song. It is rather comical when I have a track from a female vocalist folk group and an album from a 70's death metal band is displayed on the screen.
It is very difficult and tedious to change the information on each track as it is displayed in the software. When there is an unknown artist, album or track name, it is difficult to navigate through the separate fields to change them. The iTunes software is much easier where you have a right click and get info and you are able to change. If I could sum up the problem in the zune software is that there is no use of the right click feature that I would expect from Microsoft.
While I am, for the most part, happy I purchased a zune, there are several short comings that I hope will be addressed in the near future. The lack of peripherals is also something that needs to be addressed. While the head start the iPod has is certainly understandable, I wish Microsoft would work with developers or take it upon themselves to create useful add ons to the zune that make it worth the purchase. The lackluster software and video selection in the marketplace, along with the lack of peripherals makes me think twice about why I didn't purchase an iPod. I wish I could say that that wasn’t the case as I am somewhat of a Microsoft fan boy.
I know Microsoft has big plans for the Zune and I would like to offer my experiences to further the development of their product
