Good to hear lowed007. I hope everyone can get their meta data fixed and get their Zunes back out on the street.

re: [Can't find the recommended files to fix problem

I cannot find one of the files that I need to find to use the fix.  I am running XP.

I am going to list the file paths that are available on my computer. I have show hidden files enabled

1. c/doc & settings/user/doc & settings/microsoft/zune/firmware updates (this is the ONLY) file or folder in this folder

2.C/doc & settings/default user/local settings/app. data/microsoft / NO ZUNE FOLDER

there is a media player folder with a file of- currentdatabase_59r...  is this the same folder as the CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb ???

I did a whole computer search (including hidden files & folders) for  currentdatabase_365.wmbd and could not find it.

I did a whole computer search for zunestore.sdf.  i found this and changed it to zunestore.sdf.backup

My problems are: 1. albums have been broken up and are listed mulitple times with only 1 song on each album.  It looks as if I have thousands of files when there should only be hundreds.

                           2.  Misc. album art.  Crazy pictures that come from who knows where!

Please help.  i was planning to get another for my son this christmas and now I am worried that we will have this problem with the new one also.

all of my files on my cpu actually changed...they were correct before the update, then everything got mixed up...is going through my library and individually changing them the only way i can fix the problem or is there a faster way? also it won't let me play some music, the player says item can't found or is missing, when i go to play it...how can it be missing when i can play the song on my cpu and it says it's on the zune? thanks for your help

re: [FIX] Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues in XP and Vista

I'm not a computer whiz, but I believe the answer is at:  http://forums.zune.net/2203/ShowPost.aspx - look for the Microsoft Response.  I believe they forgot to mention that the two files you'll edit are hidden.  To un-hide them, follow the steps MS outlined, to the point where the two files should be.  You won't see the two files, because they're hidden.  So, go on top of the window toolbar, click on "Tools", then click on "Folder Options."  Then, click on tab "View" - where you should see "Do Not Show Hidden Files."  Change this to "Show Hidden Files", click on "Apply" then click "OK."  Afterwards, follow steps outlined by MS, to rename files.  This will align/fix the zune problems and it did for me.  Allow library to rebuild, before attaching your Zune.  When finished and you plug your Zune in, it will not be recognized by your computer at first and will think it's linked to another computer.  Just set it up as usual.  And, if you're using wireless, you have to reset that, as well.  It doesn't take long and don't foreget to go back and change View Files back to "Hidden."  Other issues that you may encounter, may/should be addressed by different forums, where you may find your answers.  Everyone is frustrated, but I think it just takes a little time.

Later...

I have XP and renaming the db worked for 90% of the data in Library but there are still 10% which have the wrong album information even though when I look at the file the tags are correct!!!!

The folder in XP should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\(((USERNAME)))\Application Data\Microsoft\Zune\

Let me know if that works. I don't have XP anymore, but if memory serves me right, that should be it.
If all else fails, search for ZuneStore.sdf.

To those with issues with album art, it may have been caused by having "Update Album Information" checked when the database was confused. Try fixing those issues manually with Mp3tag after you delete the ZuneStore.sdf file and you should be on your way. I had about 5 albums I had to do this to, since I didn't catch the "Update Album Information" option at the beginning. You can find it in the settings menu.

Thanks,

ok so i edited all of my music one by one. saved each tag and saved the whole configuration... what am i supposed to do now? i add the music to the zune software and it still places my music wrong. my music shows correct in mp3tag editor & in windows. why in the world does it continue to make my collection completly wrong when i add it to the zune software?

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

You are right on the mark, as it is just pitiful how they release software as an upgrade and they fail to properly test it. Just who are the Software Managers that has allowed such debacle?

Then there is the entire UI redesign, are they drinking something strong than coffee in the woods? This new interface control clues are vague, un-intuitive and nothing more than an exercise in Art work. Yes, one nice pretty background mask that blends all control queues and makes the software hard to decipher. Please bring the version 1 layout back!

Someone did  a great job on the requirements document for this new version, but the implementation was poor.
