re: Zune Software Update Coming Today - 2.3 FINALLY!

Well I can change Album art now ! ! ! ! ! ! !  but when i add songs from an artist they still go in 3 different places even though ALL information for the song is the same

I change all the song information with about 3 different programs and the right click edit props and still zune has no Idea what its doing but again.........I can change album art (which is the reason I got the zune)

There was never a problem with the nasty looking WMP11 look alike but now with the new Player It took them months for me to be able to change album art and thats embarrassing.  I bought the Halo 3 Zune in August because of the huge Album art but now I am giving the player until June to get its S*!t together or I can sell it for something else...................PLEASE FIX THIS the zune is awesome

Reasons
This is for those of you who don't seem to understand why the deleting media issue is a problem for SOME people, even though it may not be for yourselves.  And if you're going to leave a comment, you best read everything else I've said before this post so that you don't say something that's already been resolved or clarified, or you'll be disregarded completely (by me at least) and you can just look like an idiot on your own.  I'm tired of repeating myself, and I refuse to.  Below are the main reasons that people (including myself) believe this is truly a problem.

1) I have the CD's to most, if not all, of my music.  I do not NEED the songs to remain on my computer in the event that I would like to take them off to clear space, and I do not NEED to back them up because I have the CD's in like new condition because I used them once or twice.  Period.  So please quit telling me buy more stuff (like hard drives) that I don't need and can't really afford right now.

Also (I diverge), don't pull that "Well you could afford the Zune, so why can't you afford an $80 drive" crap.  Look at some of the stuff you people are saying, seriously...  You're judging people on what kind of money they have available to them, and quite frankly I'm getting sick of it. You're right, I could afford the Zune, and I had to think good and hard about it, too.  Know what else?  I had to sell my old player to pay for some of it.  So where's this hard drive money coming from, hmm?  My hard earned cash that could definitely go into way better investments.  Again, I've already gone over this, read that post (a few posts up) before you criticize my wallet.

2) Every video file I have has to be converted to a different format that is about the same size as, if not maybe a little smaller than, the orignal.  Being that I plan on keeping all of the original files, I do NOT need 2 of each of them on my computer, I need one of them in it's original format on my computer and another, converted one on my Zune.  Also, some videos come from DVDs or tapes from my camera, possibly, in which case I would rightfully want a copy on my Zune and the other kept on their original container, not taking up un-neccessary space on my hard disk, pretty much the same as my music.

It's all about efficiency, people.  This is NOT an efficient way to control my media by any means, and this is the argument I'm going to take to the Zune team.  If they want to have this restriction for copyrighted material, that's great, but they shouldn't make the rest of us pay for it.  They can somehow make this apply to files that come from the marketplace, and those files only, if that's their concern.  But I don't want two, sometimes even three unecessary copies of my personal files floating around, it's un-efficient and unneccessary.  And if I don't want to back up my files further, that's my problem and I shouldn't be made to by Microsoft, no matter how much of a good idea it is.  That's totally irrelevant, so please don't preach to me about that, either, I've been there and done that.  That's pretty much the bottom line.  Right now, I'll just deal with it and hold off on buying anything else until I absolutely have to.  I've got enough media on it as of now, but in the future I definitely plan on putting more on.  But, for now, it can wait until either 1) something is changed or 2) I'm forced to either clear off more space or buy more space (rediculous...).

re: Zune Software Update Coming Today - 2.3 FINALLY!
I get error code D11COCD when I click on "check for updates."
Is that a server condition, or is there something (else) the matter with my software?
Thanks.

re: ...

Way to go Topher,  I am with you.  I see it all the time where people tell others to just go buy more space.  I am a teacher, not a student.  I was at staples today and the cheapest I saw was $90 for a250 gig.  I would love to, but no way can I get it without my wife going crazy.  Car insurance is coming up, oil bill, etc etc.  So great job with your comeback.  People don't need to be rude when they don't even know you/

re: Zune Software Update Coming Today - 2.3 FINALLY!
I have some MP3's that I ripped into WMP11 off of CDR's. The MP3's are of different artists and different albums so I fixed all their tags in WMP11 using the "advanced tags" option and placed all the MP3's in folders according to album and artist, but when I add them into the Zune software thet revert back to an order based on the CDR they were ripped from. The metadata shows up correctly in WMP11, Winamp, and Rio Music Manager, but gets all fudged up in the Zune software. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know how to fix this problem??

You know I think those are not ipod included. If theres enough zune people im sure we'll get hacked as well and have those features.

Btw I aparently see that me updating to 7.6 itunes is giving me as much crud as zune on my pc so dont grum that apple doesnt have its days. I tunes is yelling it cant find its system settings which is probably why it wont install.

1) Ipod actually lets you use it as an External Driver

3) Ipod actually provides SDK to devs so you aren't forced to choose itunes if you wish
4) Ipod lets you CHOOSE the option to keep the music on the drive but NOT your computers

And this is all from a company like Apple, which I find often takes the other route. If Microsoft really chooses to constrict the way it's users experience music, all they'll be left with is a few ignorant bunch and the fanboys.

Oh yeah, and this is all besides the bugs regarding various artists, list, laggy software, etc... =p

Go get an iPod.

oh, and I luv House, it looks like you might need to check your sources as well, because Mr. Zoglog (2 posts up) says something completely different about iPod than what you just said.  Just letting you know.

while he was brash (and I honestly see nothing wrong with it because I see so many "me me me" post all day) if you had gone of the recommended specs of the software instead of the basic requirements you would have easily seen that 10gigs of hdd space would simply not be enough.  Tigerdirect is a great place to look for cheap external/internal drives with massive storage.

Whatever.  I didn't even know it would have to use the software, actually... I had a Zen before and it was plug and play, so, it's my stupidity but I didn't even think twice about the software.  So, yeah, guess I'm going to go spend my money which should really be used for college stuff instead to go buy more stuff to make my mp3 player work right.

But you seriously can't tell me, even if you don't whine about it, that it isn't rediculous, can you?  Even if it is in the specs...  My main thing, and a lot of other peoples is, 1) it's an mp3 player and I've NEVER heard of an mp3 player operating like that, and 2) the old Zunes weren't like that so why the hell would the new ones be that different?  But whatever, it comes down to it and I'm just a sucker because I expected Microsoft to do something worthwhile, and ran on those expectations and not facts.

I'm with everyone else on this....you want some more cheese with that whine. If you only have 10 gigs of HD space left on your computer then your in a bad way. I dont even wanna know how slow and sluggish the thing runs. As everyone else as said...You can get really cheap external hds for next to nothing these days. $80? What college stuff are you gonna buy thats $80? Drugs? Food? *** cause I know books are more expensive than $80. I'm even gonna invest in getting a secondary hd (though internal) just for my music but I'm not bitching about it...and I'm a college student. *** if your computer can take old IDE hd's I'll send you my old 120 gig Maxtor for nothing. :)

Also...even with the ipod you HAVE to have the music or whatever it is on the pc. Otherwise the second you connect your ipod its gonna delete it off of there as well. So I dont know what all the fuss is about....

Ok, well first of all, my computer actually runs great.  It's a laptop, too, so, it is running surprisingly well for only having 10g left.  It's got quite a bit of RAM, so, that probably has a lot to do with it.  And, I'm trying really hard not to get pissy, but don't you tell me what to do and/or what I can or can't do with my money, alright?  I guess $80 dollars doesn't seem like much to you, but to me, it really is right now...  There are people who are in different circumstances than yourself, and you need to remember that before you go telling them what they can do with the money that they may or may not have available to them, alright?  Ok, so books are a little costy (and I don't buy or do drugs, thank you very much)...  But what about buying gas every week?  What about food?  Clothes?  I'm thinking about applying for another college maybe, so what about application fees?  For all you know, I could be paying for my own college...  I'm not, but it would sure as hell be a different story then, now wouldn't it?  My parents sure don't buy that stuff for me anymore, and it isn't free, so, don't tell me what I can buy with what little money I have left to save, got it?

Okay, got that out of my system.  Anyway, if you bothered to read anything else I posted, which it's very appearant that you didn't, you'd see that I decided to either save up and buy another one (when I can) or clean the one I've got, so, it'd be wise if you'd read on before jumping to conclusions from one or two posts.

All I have to say to you is quit assuming that everyone is as better off as you are.  Just because you have money, doesn't mean that I do, so don't assume you know my circumstances, because you DON'T.  I may not (and do not) have the money to go buying every 80 dollar accessory that pops up.

Good day.
