Some people downgrade for the GUI, some because the software no longer has WMP for a backbone and doesn't have all the WMP features (even tho every single one of them can be done with 3rd party apps with no need to completly downgrade and void your warentees)

Some people downgrade because of bugs that are easier to fix then it is to downgrade, some people downgrade due to bugs that cant be fixed.

It just varies. It's usually always like this when a software takes a leap like this, even worse when they prevent people from downgrading easily, even worse then that when it's a rushed holiday release and they forget to add certain things some people concider nessessary.

You're right, WMP was the backbone of 1.4, hense why Js-type worked. I don't see it as a flaw, just something WMP could do that they forgot to add back in when they made the software self-reliant.

But honestly, not much newer software out there (or people for that matter) even know what js-type is since LAME encoding is pretty much the stanard now days. I would probably convert my library over just to be with the standard.

1. the new zune 2.2 software does not recognize js-type mp3 media as zune1 software did - that is a FLAW
2. reverting back to zune 1.4 corrects this issue - which is the only thing to do until zune2 comes out with - surprise surprise - another patch
