re: The Empty Battery
I recently bought my zune 80gb a few days ago. I have not expierenced this problem and I am still running on the same charge since I bought it. I do use my zune a lot so it's not like tis just sitting there. I read on the zune support page that you should not charge your battery unless it is atleast half way deplieted. Don't know if that is why your having these issues, but just trying to help.

re: The Empty Battery
I've seen a lot of people with Zune 30s that have this problem, but what about Zune 80s?  I've got a new Zune 80 and have simiar problems.  If I do not charge my device every night, it will be dead within 24 hours.  I use my device for the drive to/from work.  I'm listening to it for at most 1 hour per day and the battery indincator is red before I get home.

I'll echo the hopes that this is a firmware problem and that a fix will be coming soon.

re: The Empty Battery
Need I add, I am having the same problem with the 30G I got yesterday. The problem is that the machine is not turning off. The battery is fine, just getting drained! I turned off my wireless setting to see if it would be reset to ON after I attempted to shut down the Zune. It never changes to ON, which means the Zune is not turning off. It must be a glitch in the new software upgrade.

re: The Empty Battery

Same (or similar) problem(s).

Brand new Zune brown 30GB.

Loaded with latest update firmware.

Screen only show black battery(!) when hooked to computer via USB.

Computer does not recognize Zune.

Support was very polite but very clueless.

RJ is very pissed.

The Empty Battery
Our has done the same. We have had our 30GB for almost a year. Directly after the firmware upgrade, we started having the battery problem. It appears that sometimes the computer we have it connected to doesn't charge it completely. When it does, it has short battery life. We have followed all of the support hints and have had no luck. Hope the Zune team has a fix out soon.

re: The Empty Battery

I have noticed the same pattern with my 30 GB Zune Player.  The battery lasts about 3 hrs and dies.

I have wireless off, and screen shuts off after 5 seconds.

I just recharged battery we will see how long it lasts today.

I think this is a firmware issue.  I have a Zune 30 and my friend just bought one a few days before the new firmware came out.  Both of us have had the same issue arise only after updating to the new firmware.  If was a hardware problem, we would have seen it with the old firmware also, I believe.

I agree. This happened to my Zune 30 shortly after I'd done the firmware update. From what I could tell, it looked like the device would charge for a short while and then stop charging (like it 'thought' it was fully charged when it wasn't) Result being that I'd unplug it and after about a minute it'd run out of power and shut down again. After fiddling around restarting/resetting it, it started acting properly again. No problems since.

This Sucks! after being fully charged it uncharges completely after like 3-4 songs, and whenever i turn it off and turn it on later it gives me the big battery sign with an exclamation mark in it when i just charged it then it wont work again until i plug it into my computer again

I might of found a fix for this problem everyone..charge your Zune fully and then do a hard reset on it (back button + up button) and let it reset.  Then see how long your battery life is.  Mine was doing this, but it's been two days and my battery has not done this.  I seem to be getting even better battery life than I was before.  I'm thinking that the Zune might not of reset itself when the new firmware went on it and so it needs to be reset fully.  I would make sure to charge your zune all the way up though first..just to be sure it reads it correctly then.

This error is caused when you don't follow the sertup steps very carefully, so this fix mentioned above should work.

re: The Empty Battery
i used my lock switch when i first bought my 30. now i sometimes don't use the lock switch and it locks anyways...i think the slider in these things are fragile. i've seen it in other electronics like personal cd players and such. if the zune didn't cost me $300+ for it and everything when it came out, i would use it for target practice for my .40 glock.
