thanks ultraman!

I will have to give the suggested fix above a try.  Question though - when you actually shut it off in the middle of the day, are you just pushing the Play/Pause button and then hitting the lock switch?  or do you still have to fully power it down by holding Back+Down?

I would love to hear if any of the Microsoft Engineers that read this forum have been able to experience this issue, and any updates?

so far...

I might of found a fix for this problem everyone..charge your Zune fully and then do a hard reset on it (back button + up button) and let it reset.  Then see how long your battery life is.  Mine was doing this, but it's been two days and my battery has not done this.  I seem to be getting even better battery life than I was before.  I'm thinking that the Zune might not of reset itself when the new firmware went on it and so it needs to be reset fully.  I would make sure to charge your zune all the way up though first..just to be sure it reads it correctly then.

re: The Empty Battery
From what i've heard, there seems to be an issuse with the Firmware about the Zune going into sleep mode, apperently it won't. My battery seems to last long though, not sure why. Sad [:(]

I've seen a lot of people with Zune 30s that have this problem, but what about Zune 80s?  I've got a new Zune 80 and have simiar problems.  If I do not charge my device every night, it will be dead within 24 hours.  I use my device for the drive to/from work.  I'm listening to it for at most 1 hour per day and the battery indincator is red before I get home.

Yep, there are a bunch of Z80 owners in this thread that have the same problem, including me.  The workaround is to do a hard shutdown when I am not using it.  Hit the 'back' and 'down' buttons and hold them down until the unit shuts off.  Not my ideal way of fixing this, but this ensures that the battery won't be drained for that commute home.

I suspect as more Z80 owners get their Z80, then we might see more of them notice this.

Oddly enough, after posting my earlier complaint, I went back and tried the drain, fully charge and reboot trick one more time and lo and behold, my device seems to be working better.  Both yesterday and today, I have been able to remove my device from the sync cable at about 7am, listen to it on the way to work and have very little battery use indicated by the end of the day.  So far today, I have been 'unplugged' for 5 hours and still show a full battery with the device sitting in the hibernate state (hold down play/pause till screen goes blank).

So, only advice I have is to keep trying the complete drain, fully charge (overnight) and then reboot.

re: The Empty Battery
this happens to me as well but when i plug it in to charge the battery shows the exact same amount i had when i stopped using it. now its to the point that i cant use my zune at all. every single time i try t use it the battery indictor comes on. i am about ready to go buy another ipod, last ipod i had nevr had as many problems as ive been having with my zune. everything started right after i updated the firmware. microsoft is really dropping the ball on this product in my opinion.

I'll echo the hopes that this is a firmware problem and that a fix will be coming soon.

Yes, I can confirm the same defect on the Zune 80.  I LOVE the Zune, but this is nuts.

If there is no way of getting the pictures onto your computer, I'm afraid your out of luck.
