re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues
Okay, I've tried everything on this list, twice. Whenever my album art updates the vast majority of the art is from a single album (last time it was Interpol's Turn On the Bright Lights; I followed all the steps, told it to update my album art, and now they all turned into Billy Talent). I have to be doing something wrong...or something...can I just disable album art? This is getting annoying...

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

I have Vista... I set up to view hidden files like you said.. My problem is that I do not have a file called CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb .

When I loaded all of my music cds on to begin it worked fine.. Album art was all good.  I then was fooling around with a program that would convert dvd's to zune videos.  I received errors regarding my zune and it would close my zune software... It also said to debug and I did this... I guess I shouldn't have because it took all my album art away.  It is still good on my zune but not on computer and I can't get it back...anyone know how I can?  I tried this but like I said I don't have this file to rename it CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb

HELP!

FaceFrench, if you did not upgrade from version 1.x, you won't have that file. That was the database file name with the original version.

The Vista fix worked perfectly for me...

The only other problem I had was that, on a fresh reinstall, it set everything to read-only... A quick attrib fixed that...

Attrib... Boy, am I dating myself ;)

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues
So this step by step process worked the best for me. I couldn't find the file until I found this bit below. For some reason, even when I opted to show inviible files and folders the album art didn't come up. I had to go through every. single. folder. Thankfully I had a Sunday to do nothing with so. Now after I did all this stuff, it's not perfect by any means but, it's a BILLION times better. The question I have now is does anyone know of an easy way to fix the stuff that isn't right?  For some odd reason the good folks over at MS decided to limit the ways we can edit album information, especially when it comes to being able to just copy and paste album art. What gives with that MS?!?! So yeah, if you know a way please let me know.

Thanks to Cesarisok

Software update 2.1 (build 888.2) provides a fix for the metadata glitch that we’re reading about in these forums – that is, when you upgrade from 1.3 to 2.1, your music collection displays incorrect album/artist/track info when playing on the Zune software. This update resolves that. Here’s how to install:

If you’re still running 1.3:
When you’re prompted for an update via the Zune software, accept it. This updated build – 2.1 build 888.2 - will not encounter the metadata glitch.

If you’ve already upgraded to 2.1
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you’re already running 2.1, you do not need to install build 888.2 – the software will tell you “you’re already up to date.”

This link will help you recover if you've encountered the metadata issue:  http://support.microsoft.com/?id=945319

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

Hi,

I'm having a problem finding the Zune folder.

I am logged under my name, and I am also the administrator.

I did everything as you said, including the show hidden folder option, and the zune folder will not show up???

All my music is so messed up right now, I'm so disgusted!..............Thanks Microsoft!

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

XP: Rather than searching through EVERY file, I found it a lot easier to just search the Zune files.

Start menu->My Documents->

At the top of that click "Search"

Then on the side -> All files and folders

All or part of the name file: Zune

A Word or phrase in the file: (You can leave blank)

Look in: Local Disk (C:)

It worked better for me because the files I was missing, i searched them and it found them for me.

Hope this helped, those who need it. =]

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

Ok so now that my library (both WMP and Zune) are pretty much fixed....

How do I keep the Zune library from putting new cd's that I rip with WMP from being put in the "unknown Artist" catagory, without screwing up my libraries again?

WMP is ripping everything correctly but when the Zune software is started it sees the new CD it puts it in the Unknown artist catagory.  If you look at the individual Unknown Artist Cds  the individual tracks retain their correct names  it has just lost the CD name and Album Art

re: Microsoft Response (Moved from Page 2 / Moved from First Post)

I followed the steps in this article from MS... http://support.microsoft.com/?id=945319

It has 2 procedures to follow... the second one has a patch for the system registry that checks MetaData for accuracy as it re-creates the library. This second method worked for me, cleaning up about 90% of the mess.

To fix the remaining albums/artists/song/album art problem, I downloaded and have been using to repair the information a program called MediaMonkey. This program allows you to edit the MetaData and the new info is accepted by the Zune software, sometimes updating "on the fly..."

Good luck to the rest of you!
