re: Re: Zune Software

Help!  I just downloaded the new software and it took just fine.  The issue is that my computer now is doing strange things.  I opened the task manager and watched as I opened the Zune software, it runs my CPU usage up to 100% and will not come down until I shut down the Zune software.  I'm not doing anything with it, its just sitting there running at 100%.  What is happening with the Zune update that is causing this to happen???  My computer is a good up to date machine with no issues until I downloaded the new Zune software.  Ideas?

That is what we call an opinion, that is something that cannot be supported by fact.  There is a small group of people (very small group) that actually agrees with you.  If this was the majority consensus of Zune users you would see a majority of post dedicated to this specific aspect of the Zune and the Software and that number of post required for majority consensus does not exist.  Even those of us who do not agree with you know how to get around this aspect of the software if we so choose..........man talk about irony there.  Those of us that don't care know how, makes me laugh.

Re: Zune Software
The whole point here is that we make notes of the big issues that the Zune team needs to address. The issue is that Microsoft messed up big time in making the Zune a part of the software instead of a separate entity. The guys at MS must put all of their music on their Zunes and just keep them on their PC's. Not everyone (most music lovers) keeps all thier music on the PC. So I agree that getting a larger HD to make up for that is useless. Think of it this way: before MP3 players, did you take your whole CD collection with you everywhere you went? What about your whole DVD collection? Get the point?

And Spryboy, that's what feedback is for. No one is whining here but you. This coming from someone using the Lord's name in vain? These are issues that NEED to be addressed so the Zune team can really make the Zune software a better experience. I'm upset as much as the next person. I was shocked that the Zune deleted over 100 hour long messages just because I deleted them from my PC becasue it was on my Zune so there was no need to keep them on my PC. Especially since you can copy things from the Zune to the PC. So now I have to download all of them again to put them back on my Zune. But I'm going to wait to see if this is fixed before I do that. At 30MB a pop, that fills up quickly. So this is really confusing, why would MS include this feature in the new software when it deletes things that don't show up in the monitored folders?

I just hope the Zune team taks this as a top priority to fix. These issues are what's holding the Zune back from being what it can really be: the first REAL competitor to ipod's throne.

I  didnt check your reply, but thats excatly what i did with the zunestore.sdf. i deleted it, re-opened the zune software, added my music and then fixed a few tracks and boom... all are perfect! Thank you microsoft for the long awaited update. Now all of my music is perfect the way i want it; i hope now that if i decide to rip track from my cd's that zune doesnt mix them up. Thanks willysjeepman for the post! Now lets part with our new zune software.. wooohoooo!

My ID3 tags are 110% perfect as well and when I first launched the 2.3 software after the update, it too scrambled my collection.  No where near as bad as with 2.1, but the problem was still there.

I found that I needed to close the Zune software, delete the zunestore.sdf file, restart the Zune software and allow it to rebuild the collection.  The 2.3 version of the software rebuilt the catalog PERFECTLY.  I was even able to add 5 new albums (digitized LPs downloaded from Basic Hip Digital) and the Zune software accurately imported them into the library perfectly.

I think that there may be some erroneous pointers and data in the zunestore.sdf left over from 2.1 that prevents 2.3 from working properly.  But allowing 2.3 to build the zunestore.sdf from scratch worked.  And... 2.3 now virtually instantaneously recognizes changes to the ID3 tags that are made by external programs.

Nicely done!  Good post!

Glad to see the Podcasting improvements in particular, but one that I'm still missing is support for password-protected RSS feeds!

I'm getting to this a bit late, but ...

I don't subscribe to podcasts, much less password-protected ones, so this is a total shot in the dark, but have you tried the old method of including login info in the URL?  For example, something like:

 http://username:password@www.airamerica.com/premium/podcast.php?pid=17

I have no idea if that will work, but you could give it a try.

re: Zune Software Update Coming Today - 2.3 FINALLY!

Wow. I am apparently not using my Zune to it's fullest potential. That being said; I've had my beloved "black brick" (30) for several months now and have not had any problems with it. My wireless sync works flawlesly and the playback is great! The one complaint I have is the time it takes to load movies when I'm preparing to travel, but I've just learned to load the night/weekend before. . .and it's the 3rd party software that's slow, not the Zune.

Not necessarily a MS "fanboy" but prior to laying down my money I borrowed an iPOD and a Zune, and liked the Zune better because it was cheaper. the controls seemed more intuitive, and it had a wonderful BIG screen.

To date all of the firmware and software updates have been smooth (just followed the on-screen prompts) and loaded within 2 to 5 minutes on my XP laptop. Don't know what I'm doing right but I guess God watches over children and Zunies like me.

Uh, hem. I apologize for the lack of useful content. This is my first post.
