re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

This is very annoying. I have a latop which is always in need of more space and there is NO WAY I can KEEP 80G of music downloads on it at all times, I am a part of the audience (which I believe most are, and MS made a HORRIBLE ASSUMTION to think not) that wishes that the only files they download to put on their Zune are only on their zune instead of constantly consuming space on their PCs. I recently reformatted my entire PC and have yet to plug my zune back into my laptop knowing that once I do all the songs on my Zune will recognize the lack of the files being on my PC and delete hours of time I have spent downloading songs!!I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with making another User account to put my files in, and believe that to be a HORRIBLE SUGGESTION, and do not know how that is APPEALING to ANYONE!!! As of Late I have become disgusted with Microsoft and it's lack in support or care for their customers, from my xbox, microsoft wireless router, and my zune, Microsoft is proving itself to be nothing but worthless! I'm tired of being told that I have to pay $60+ dollars to recieve decent support on their products, and tired of the worthless advice that the support phonelines will provide for free!!!!!

If there is an update to fix this please someone inform me.

I NO LONGER HAVE A SYNCING PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD TO TOTALLY WIPE OUT MY ZUNE. INCLUDING THE SOFTWARE AND REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE TO IT AND NOW IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY IT ? HOPEFULLY IT WILL WORK FOR YOU, TOO.

Any update from the Zune team on fixing this? I don't mind continuing to use guest sync but it'd be cool to use wireless sync.

I feel ya and agree with ya. But since the current software does suck, it's just the way to do things until if gets fixed (I still hold out hope that I'll see it in my lifetime).

Once you have the majority of your collection on your device, maually adding albums/videos/pictures as you get them isn't a big deal though. It's as close to the old software as you can get and has me at least liking my Zune again. I started in love, then it turned to complete hate with version 2, and now I'm content for the time being.

I missed the empty part, although you can just highlight your whole collection by album or titles and sync them all at once. Just be sure to edit your collection and get rid of anything bad before sync'ing (you should be able to just go in and delete them after sync'ing them as well, although some things show they delete but are still there on device even when gone from software). That's what I did with my newest Zune (an 80G named 6, since it's my 6th device in just over a year. I've had worse luck than most with hardware dying on me, so I'm getting to be pro at re-filling a device).

WOW 6TH ? THAT'S CRAZY.
ITS JUST I REALLY DON'T HAVE THE TIME FOR ALL THAT WITH MY BUSY SCHEDULE. THAT'S WHY IT NEEDS TO GET FIXED ! I HAVE THOUSANDS OF MUSIC FILES AND PICTURES, HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS....IT IS GOING TO TAKE DAYS FOR ME TO SORT OUT EVERYTHING ! WHICH IS WHY IAM SO STUCK ON MS FIXING THIS. THEY CREATE NEW PATCHES FOR THE OTHER ISSUES ( THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE ), BUT WON'T FIX THE MAIN ONE ! ONLY BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO THEM, "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT" KAUSE THEY'RE MORONS AND MADE IT THAT WAY UGHH :: ROLLS EYES :: I DON'T WANT TO FEEL LIKE MY DAD WASTED $275 ON IT FOR ME ( HE GOT IT WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT ) YOU KNOW ? SO IT SUCKS THAT I HAVEN'T USED IT IN 4 MONTHS.

Why did someone think it was a good idea to make it harder for users to have control over their music?!! This whole 2.2 autosync debacle has frustrated me enough to want to switch back to an IPod! I shouldn't have to jump through hoops (sign on as a guest or figure out how to unmonitor files) just to keep music from being deleted off my zune! WTF?! The first version was much better...whoever came up with this ridiculous and completely idiotic feature should really be handed the pink slip! MS, fix this soon or what little market share you have now will most certainly disappear to Apple’s IPod!!

SO REDICULOUSLY TRUE ! MS IS GOING TO LOSE WHAT THEY HAVE..BUT EXCEPT FOR THE SWITCHING TO IPOD. IPODS ARE A PIECE OF TRASH. MAYBE SWITCHING TO A BASIC MP3 PLAYER, BUT MOST DEFINATELY NOT A PIECE OF *** IPOD. AT LEAST NOT IN MY CASE AND A MAJORITY OF MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE ZUNES.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

Thanks GeminiGuy and Bigdaddyhorse! Both of you are pretty helpful. I've had my Zune since before it was "cool," so the thought of it emptying itself when I return to my personal laptop makes me sick to my stomach. All of my files are on my school laptop. The worst thing that could happen is that I'd have to copy all my new files to a jump drive, but that would take so long. My school laptop is getting tossed in the trash in June/July, so I just figured I would let it take my home account with it and I would never have to worry about the auto-syncing issues again.

If having a guest account is the best thing to do and the only thing that works, then I might do it. I'm just too anal (ok, maybe a little OCD) about organization.

Anyway, I've been thinking of ways to possibly try to avoid this situation and it occured to me - if I switch my home computer to the computer that I never use, will Zune automatically connect as a guest to it's old home computer? I'm really not ready to copy all my files to a jump drive just to save them.

I don't want a guest account on my personal laptop.

It won't automatically connect as a guest, it will give you the opition screen where you can switch it back to home or connect as guest. There's also a check box for "always connect as guest on this computer".

I recently make my GF's laptop (which I only use to charge my Zune on trips) as home and have been much happier since. Even though I had to hand sync everything from my desktop, now that it's all there and I can plug in without seeing the "syncing" icon light up unless I move new stuff to the list. I highly recommend becoming a guest, as it's the only way I've found to stop autosync. That giving it no folders to monitor sounds like it might work, I never did try that. I know the "let me choose" does not work at all. Maybe for 2 minutes, then as soon as you add one song or picture, it starts syncing everything. Be a Guest, it best!
