Me too
Glad to hear others are having this problem and that it is just a software problem. I thought my new Ford Sync system was draining the battery on the device after leaving it in the car overnight.

re: The Empty Battery
My Zune is CONSTANTLY doing this now. It's sped up in frequency and if I forget to do a hard shut down then the next time I try to turn it on......nothing.

Please fix this. I like my Zune, it just needs improvements.

re: The Empty Battery

Seriously,  can we get some kind of update or response from the Microsoft Zune team (thats reads/participates in this forum).

We understand you are working on it, but any other information you can provide would be very much appreciated I'm sure.  Any estimated date on a firmware update?  Is this the #1 bug that you all are working on?

Are you experiencing this issue on your own Zunes?

re: The Empty Battery
I have tried all the supposed remedies; completely discharged the battery, charge fully over night, reset while still connected to power, reset after unplugging from power.  Nothing has helped.  I don't understand how a device that is supposed to be able to play music for 12 hours can't sit still for the same time in sleep mode without killing the battery.  It's a big problem that needs to be resolved NOW.

re: The Empty Battery

So I just got my Zune 80 from Zune Originals.  I'm getting the same problem.  Fully charged, used a couple times and then I go to sleep, only to wake up with a dead battery.

This is obviously a widespread issue, but is it a hardware or firmware problem?  If I ever get a replacement from MS, will it have the same problem?

regret to inform
had reported some success with the suggested fix! i regret to inform that after about 5 hours of playing time, i am back charging my zune yet again. this is after i got about 12 hours, turning it on and off, after employing the reset solution. this toy is trying my patience and consuming too much of my time. if there's no fix in the near term, i'll likely retire it soon.

re: The Empty Battery
MS tech support has never heard of them(nor even how to pronounce it, "zoom?"), believe me, I tried. You'll have to surf for answers. Always turn it off by holding down the back button and the down button simultaneously for 5 seconds. Mine had to go dead completely at least 3 times and fully charge overnight before I could do a hard reset and have it finally work consistently. Two returns to JR Electronics for replacements before I figured this out, btw. Good Luck! They're a very expensive Excedrin/xanax/two martinis/ and a massage.. Headache.

re: The Empty Battery
HOW DO YOU FULLY TURN OFF YOUR ZUNE? I read through alot of this post and didn't see a clear answer. when I "turn off" my zune, I hold down the play/pause button for 3 seconds. then lock it. but if it is unlocked, it will turn on by simply pressing any button. you're supposed to have to hold the play/pause button for 3 seconds to turn back on, so I don't think I'm fully turning it off, any help on how too?

re: The Empty Battery
Yeah, just today i had a problem with it.  I went to school with the Zune "off".  Then i came back home, turned it on and voila...it was dead.  I really want this problem fixed so that i can go back to loving my Zune.

Its it...what is it?

re: The Empty Battery
to those of you flaming zune and glorifying ipod...why are you even on zune's forum board?

not to diss ipod but...just tellin it how it is...

to those of you considering buying ipod over zune because of this problem consider this:
*i have 2 roomates, a sister, and four other friends who have had serious problems with their ipod (either battery or hard drive)
*on the other side, i know one person who claims to have had no problems with their ipod
*everyone i met who has a zune, including myself, has been extremely satisfied with it, up until this problem, which seems to be very fixable (once the underlying cause is detected) with a new firmware upgrade
