Still no resume, correct?

I've searched and so far it seems that the "update" did not add the ability to resume playblack?  Is that still the case for everything (excepting wmv files of course)?   Why the heck would you add podcast support only to not allow resume playback?  This is very annoying about my current Zune (purchased about a month ago) and I'm about to sell it on ebay and go back to my ipod.  I mean dumb is dumb but this is idiotic.

What you are referring to is a bookmark.  The new firmware supports firmware BUT once you sync again it loses the bookmarks.  An MS employee on this forum stated they are working on keeping them after a sync.

Thats right, we do support 'bookmarking" on both PC and the device, but they dont sync up with each other at the mo. They will do soon tho!

If this bookmarking is supported on mp3 files then I'm great, even if it loses them after a sync (although keeping them would be best).  I'm hoping to keep my Zune in my car at all times and use wireless sync to keep podcasts updated.  Heck, if it does just that single function correctly with resume I guess I'll be pretty happy as music and such is mostly an afterthought for me.

What do you mean?

Can we expect an update in a week or something?  Or do you mean next year?

re: Still no resume, correct?

My big beef is with MP3 Books that I am listening to. If I don't listen for a couple of days, when I hit a button it boots up and doesn’t have the bookmark any more. With a good size book I spend 15 min sometimes trying to find where I was. I would even accept a manual book mark as long as it kept it until the file is removed from my device.

The same thing seems to happen if it gets bumped and reboots or if I listen until the battery dies, at least I would have the position of the last bookmark in these situations. Searching a 5 GB file is a real pain in the butt.

Do any other players do a better job in this area?

Bob

Yea, I hear you on this one. I was really wishing that the resume feature would be in this update. It would of been a huge update itself beside the GUI change. I sure hope that the developers come out with another update with the major issues like this one, in a speedy manner and not in a year or something close.

I have been a fan of "books on tape" since 1984 (yes, for you youngsters), I said tape.  In those days the library had a separate shelf with the BOTs (both of them).  Since then, libraries have entire rooms dedicated to audio books, and book sellers like B&N and Borders have built entire wings for their holdings.  Not to mention Amazon.   Obviously, there has grown some interest in spoken books.  So, is the problem that there is some unscaleable technological hurdle that is not allowing bookmarking onto the Zune for mp3 files?  Goodness, I know MS had little to do with putting a man on the moon, but the masterminds who brought us DOS, Windows, Vista and even BOB, should be able to solve this problem.  Now listen, MS, if you want to solve a really tough problem -- when I wake up in the morning and my Zune battery is dead, I need the Zune to know when I fell asleep!

They completly recreated the software so that it no longer uses major components of Windows Media Player as a backbone, and it is now completly stand-alone.
It's not a "Major Update", but it did take time, it's a start, and now that it's stand-alone, its probably easier for them to add new features in a quicker manner then the previous software (Quarterly).

(This isnt sarcasm, by the way, I really mean every bit of this.) Personally I think that when I play a song under the genre "Rock" a giant stage should appear in my back yard, and the band dropped down by helecoptor, also 40 foot speakers, an audience that just appears out of nowhere, and a crap ton of unnessessary pyro just to annoy my neighbors. I also want the device to instantly teleport me to inputed x,y,z co-ordinants.
I'm hoping this is going to be in the 2.5 patch. Maybe if I pray.. really hard... for a long time.

In all honesty, they're new to podcasts and the software was rushed, I'm just glad they've officially stated there working on the feature instead of leaving us in the dark.

And at night, turn your device off! Back+Down, instead of leaving it on idle.
