re: Zune Pad won't work... And neither will restart...
I just tried this on my 120gb Zune and Thank God it worked. I had a 30gb that died and I brought this 5 months ago. I thought this died also.I thought I might have to try an Ipod next and I did not want to do that. So now I'm just waiting for every to sync, I think I'll take a nap while I wait, but it is worth it.

re: Zune Pad won't work... And neither will restart...

im having a similar issue, except my zune has the four number lock on it... so i cannt even unlock my zune to play music, it just is unresponsive. also weirdly, i let the battery drain completly dead, and when i plug it back in to charge up it will work perfectly UNTILL i press the center of the touch pad, which i have to do after i plug in my code... and as this was a replacement zune for the exact same problem, my warrenty is now up. any ideas?!?!

thanks!

Try reinstalling the games again to get it to reboot.  (Don't erase the content...that's not the problem.)  Then when it restarts, reboot it again once or twice immediately.  hold back and up to do this...it will shut down and will start itself.  This may do it...if not, you can try reinstalling the complete firmware.

re: Zune Pad won't work... And neither will restart...
I have the same problem with an 8GB Zune. The pad is completley unresponsive after I have tried re-installing the games, resetting it, and restoring it. Is there any possible way I can fix this without sending it in? I do have a warranty, but I'd rather not send it in. That's a last resort...

you can force a reboot without using the buttons by letting it play until it dies.  connect it and let it charge...it will reboot when it starts up.  If you do this, do a reboot quickly yourself (hold back and up.)  If this doesn't work, then you may have more serious issues.  Tell all your zune friends to boot the device every so often...even tell your iPod friends..same thing is true for them.

I have a 4 GB Zune with a non-responsive D-pad and I have tried the letting the battery die, Erasing everything and also doing an update. It won't let me do a full restore because the button will not work. Not still under warranty. If I can't fix it I will probably end up buying a new player for cheaper than fixing this one. I have liked the functions on the Zune but will switch if I can't get it to work.
there's one more thing you can try...  play around with reinstalling the games.  You uninstall them from the device, but reinstall them from the software...  you will probably only be able to do the second part (install.)  This will reinstall at least part of the firmware, so let's see if it helps?  Good luck!
