I tried the back+left+OK button combo I don't know how many times with no luck. I called customer support who said they would replace the zune even after the warranty has expired, except for the fact that I opened it and tried the resetting the battery a few times. Anyway, today I tried resetting the battery and pressing back+right+OK and it worked. By some sort of zune miracle it worked! If yours is still frozen you might want to call zune support as seen in an earlier post and they will replace it, or if you already opened yours then you should maybe try this different button combo. After trying restart and Back+Centre+left buttons 4-5 times finally it worked. It asked to connect to PC and install firmware.

My zune is working now. But it was real pain, my 20GB stuff gone and now again need to see those syncing-blinking starts on zune to put contents back.

I really honestley don't think I can remain calm.I'm not even sure it's even the zune itself my dad seems to think it's the usp cord or whaever it's called

Call them back and try to remain calm (easier said than done I know). They should give you the same replacement offer they gave others (including myself). Of course npow I don't need it becasue mine is working again after the reformat. I know it all sucks but they really seem to be taking care of people now. Good Luck....

I tried below steps :

1. Official steps : Drain full battary and recharge after 1st Jan - THIS DID NOT WORKEED

2. Opened zune case and did hard reset by removing and attaching battary cable - Still same issue zune logo + white bar - THIS DID NOT WORKED

3. Pressed Back+Centre+left buttons at a time while restarting of zune : It went till setp 4 ( Clearing contents. Please wait. ) But stuck on step 4 for long time. Again did a hard restart now only zune logo and nothing is happening, a very low humming noise is coming from zune - THIS TOO DID NOT WORKED

Is my zune Dead ? Does step 4 ( Clearing contents. Please wait. ) makes some noise like erasing hard drive ? Mine is not making any noise just stays on this screen forever.

Are there any other steps we can try ? Pls help

After repeating the same steps over and over ad-nauseum it has stopped freezing

I disconnected the battery (which was stupid should have left it alone but color me impatient)
which is why it was stuck in the freezing issue.

So I followed the steps:
1. Drain that battery, make sure it does not come on hitting any button flipping the hold switch make sure it truly is dead
2. This second part sucks and can take multiple times to get right, charge the Zune, keep watching the screen until the Zune symbol comes up as soon as you see Zune, hit back, left and the center button hold it until it goes to clearing contents (all three need to be held down together at the same time to achieve success)
3. Follow the directions listed on the device
4. Enjoy!

I tried all the so called helpfull tips about hitting certain buttons nothing worked I've talked to tech support twice the first guy tried to help but I was beyond frustrated at that point and hung up the second guy acted like he didn't want to help so I hung .So I guess I will continue to have a zune that will not start or charge

Fixed my Zune today (without opening it.. Why would you do that?) anyways Followed the forums, Drained the battery, charged it. When Zune logo with progress bar appeared, I hit back, left, OK all at the same time. Zune turned off, Booted up and cleared data, Stuck on that screen, Battery went dead, charged it back up, Asked to be synced with PC, did so and installed 3.1 firmware. Loaded my music back up and everything is working perfect! Good luck!

This is the # I called. 1-877-GET-ZUNE (1-877-438-9863) I just told them that this was my 4th time calling and wanted some resolution. Agent was actually helpful. The service is free.

No way. Customer service is really allowing people to send in their Zune at this point? If any of us call now will they give us the same opportunity?

Where did you call? What did you tell them? I have one that will not reset just locks up, every time recharged. Thanks
