IMO... two years does not equal a "really old and obsolete" device... especially when we're talking about something as simple as a MP3 player...

in the Tech World..........2 years is GRANDPA.........hell a PC from January '08 is Obsolete........a Cell phone from last Summer is old news........

But we're talking about a freaking MP3 player... and those phones still work, those PCs still work.  You can't really compare a MP3 player to a computer.  It shouldn't be a requirement to spend 300 bucks every damn year to keep a product running.  That's part of buying something of quality... you expect it to last.

you can compare a MP3 player to a computer........the iPod Touch & the Zune are BOTH more powerful than PCs were 10-15 years ago....have bigger HDDs too.....hell I seen people slightly mod Zunes to use Keyboards, add linux and with the built-in wifi get online....but yea I paid $250 for my Zune and truthfully I'm surprised its made it this long.....I just hope it hold out until its a Zune with a HDD bigger than 250GBs(at the current rate that should be 2010)......I have a LOT of music and vids......

A bit early to start asking for freebies, isn't it?  I mean come on, it's only 7:30 in the morning in Redmond.  The Zune team is just now waking up.  It will be a few hours, at least, before anybody has a handle on this bug.  It could be a day or two.  But free Zune Passes?  I think that's extreme at the moment.

Hell, they have gone out of their way to keep really old and obsolete Zune 30s running with the latest functionality for the past two years.  I'm happy about that.  They've taken care of us.  They'll deal with this too.

It's an inconvenience.  Nothing more.

MS definately owes us something period.

I was on my way to buy a new Zune after work when I decided to see if I could find something online about the issue my Zune 30 was having and found all the discussions. I would have been REALLY upset had I bought something else and then this one started working again tomorrow.

I am frustrated that my zune froze like this...but I'm not gonna go crazy and get an ipod!  We're in a freakin recession here and I have more important things to use my money on. I do think that microsoft should compensate the 30gb users with a 1 month or 1 week zune pass for our inconvenience...I think that's fair.

I have rid of my Microsoft Zune and am in with the iPod touch. Mainly because of poor quality of the Zune Marketplace and the incredibly long loading times. iTunes is much faster and has more features at my disposal. I don't think that the Zune Pass will do any good, since you can't even get the Zune to work at all. I would suggest that all should just abandon the Zune altogether and get an iPod Touch. Thanks.

Good luck.  See you over at the "iTouch" forums complaining about their software and hardware like everyone else over there.

You think the grass is greener in Apple-land...it isn't.  Just different grass.

Those songs on my Zune card? They're the KIDS, not ME!!!

But...

All the whiney little sniveling snot-nosed mouth-breathing brats whose parents and school districts raised them to feel entitled regardless of effort or accomplishment should STFU and realize that no matter how many times their parents assured them that even losers are winners, or their teachers didn't grade their papers with red ink or correct behavioral issues so as not to embarrass them and passed them on to the next grade even though they were just as ignorant at the end of the year as they were at the beginning, reality is not always fair and when circumstances beyond their control cause a minor inconvenience it's not the end of the world and nobody owes them anything.

As MS and others have pointed out, it'll likely be resolved tomorrow morning.

I was looking for the right words to express the same feelings after reading all the whiners and complainers suggest that somehow, having a Zune player is a basic human right, and being without it for the day due to an unexpected bug in the software that they deserve some sort of compensation.  People YELLING, name calling, threatening...what a bunch of pre-teen boobs.

I say to everyone that threatened to go buy an iPod because they couldn't use their beloved Zune for a day--PLEASE!  GO BUY AN iPOD NOW and leave the Zune Community.  We don't want you here.  You smell up the place.

The anger here just because an electronic entertainment device doesn't work for a day is amazing.  It's truly no wonder that in this day and age I'm reading articles of people KILLING each other over electronics.  You all are fine examples of what is to be.

Closed Source Software for the win!!! IF they let us put whatever we want on the zune as far as OS goes, that would have never happened. They are bunch of monopolist bitches, I already paid for the product why not let me put my own software on it?
