Having the same problem ---can't download and am being charged for the music at the same time.  Tried lots of things and I'm definitely looking into ipods now.

I will try this later today.  I have been having problems with songs that I purchased that are still on the marketplace.  Now, when I try to buy songs with my 10 freebies, I get an eroor that it can't be done but I still get charfed for the song.

 

After posting, I checked my purchase history and the songs I couldn't download were there.  I clicked the download button and it worked.

Hello all,

The error you’re seeing is of interest to our team, but we need to gather more information on it. This will require you to install Fiddler and get a trace of what’s going on (described below), so we can look at it internally. It may look long and daunting, but it’s a pretty straightforward walkthrough and it would really help us in our efforts to help you.

You'll need to download and run a free tool on your PC.

Installing and Configuring Fiddler

Fiddler is a tool used for monitoring internet traffic.  We can use it to gather more information on errors you may be seeing. Visit www.fiddlertool.com to install.

Once you’ve installed it, run it and then open Internet Explorer at a favorite web site.  You should see a list of connections in fiddler similar to the following:

The next step is to configure Fiddler to also decode SSL traffic.

In Fiddler, select Tools, Options and check the boxes:

·         Capture HTTPS CONNECTs

·         Decrypt HTTPS traffic

·         Ignore server certificate errors

Note the highlighted areas in the box below:

Next you need to configure Windows to trust the Fiddler Root Certificate.

Open a SSL site in IE like https://www.microsoft.com and you should see a page like the one below:

Leave this page open and next start the certificate manager, select Start, Run and type “certmgr.msc”

You’ll see a window similar to the one below:

Find under Personal Certificates the “DO_NOT_TRUST_FiddlerRoot” certificate and drag this to the Trusted Root -> Certificates folder. 

 

You now have fiddler setup to monitor HTTP and HTTPs connections.

This indicates that HTTPS connection monitoring is working.  If you double click on one of the entries above with the HTTPS you can then inspect the contents of the web exchange.

Saving Fiddler Traces

1.       Close all programs

2.       Start fiddler

3.       Start Zune and repeat the steps that bring you to the error, after the error appears close Zune

4.       Go back to fiddler and find the line where the url is usage/upload

5.       Right click on that line and select File, Save, Sessions, in Archive/Zip

6.       Specify a location for the file (e.g. Desktop) and a filename (e.g. “Download failed”, “can’t purchase”, etc)

7.       If it prompts you save all sessions select Yes

 

At this point, we should have enough info, send me a Private Message notifying me that you’ve completed this and have the Fiddler trace, and I’ll let you know where to go from there.

I'm getting this problem now as well. I can stream from the marketplace but not download.

I receive the same error message that this thread is referring to when trying to download WMA format files from the Zune Marketplace.  What do I need to do to correct this problem?  I've tried turning my firewalls off, I've tried restarting the software and the device.

I finally found the solution! Even if your windows firewall is turned off, it is still possible that a certain process of it may be running. Go to control panel and click on administrative tools then services then turn stop the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ISC) process.

It's not fixed. Not at all.

I've searched this site and most threads all link back to this one. Even the title of thread, says "(fixed!)". I went through most of the thread, and I don't see a fix. This is the second time, I've had this error. Before, it went away on its own. Now, I'm not so lucky once again.

I've uninstalled 3 times already and I will not be doing it a 4th time. As others have said already, this is on their side. My Zune Pass is up to date and I'm able to play music I've already downloaded, using it. I just can't download anything from the marketplace.

This is far from the only troubles I've had with the Zune, too. Before this error, my Zune absolutely refused to sign me in. That went on for quite awhile. One day, it just signed me in again, and I've had problems with the media usage stuff ever since. I also won't be using the DRM reset, either.

The software is bloated and unreliable. That's a given. If I didn't see all the problems with it, all over these forums... I wouldn't be comfortable saying it. With that said, I love my Zune. I even love the Zune Pass. I absolutely hate the software though.

Each time I use the software now, I hold my breath until I see the all familiar, round yellow error icon, next to my downloads. It shouldn't be like this.

Same error here as well. My son just got his 16G Zune for xmas and the darn thing simply won't work. I give support a call in the morning (crossing fingers) Based on the posts that I have read here, is it safe to assume that this a MS issue and should be resolved shortly?
