Okay, I sit corrected (can't type standing up . . . ): I checked "connect to the internet" and hit "Apply". I then unchecked it, hit "Apply" again, closed the software, rebooted, restarted the app and it worked - no request came through.

Thanks!!

(and I have my Zune reloaded the way it was before - and I LOVE it!)

Awesome!  New software or old, I'm only interested in helping my fellow Zune owners to be happy with their device.

The latter. If I uncheck the "connect to the internet", would that prevent the library from updating the files/album art? (not that that is a big deal - once the library has been built I can update my additions manually if need be)

Oh, and I do have that unchecked. After I rebooted my PC and restarted the software, I got the "updates are available for download" window.

Hmmm. I don't get that.  Maybe it is because I tweaked the registry for WMP to NOT check for updates:

(look at the WMP 7.0 or later section)

Question: is there any way to turn off the automatic looking for updates in 1.4? I want to monitor the forums and thoroughly review the updates prior to actually installing them.

You mean when you initially install the older software or once it is installed?  For initial installation, just disconnect your computer from the internet (including any wifi access), install the software, then reconnect.  If it is already installed: options -> sync -> more options... -> Zune Software tab -> uncheck "connect to the internet".

im not having any errors with my v2 software, the tags are fine except for the songs that i got from limewire, i didnt expect them to be tagged correctly, since WMP didnt associate them for ID tags, now that the v2 software is not backed by WMP it needs the TAGS to be there.

I bought a refurbished Zune 30GB off of Woot as well.  Worked great with the v.1 software and in fact the player still works great as well.  But the new software has incorrectly labeled most of the tracks I worked hard on burning, ripping, and editing their info that I had bought of iTunes back when I had an iPod mini.  So let me make it clear that the REFURBISHED Zune has worked great and still does.  And hopefully, once the Zune team puts out a patch for this buggy v.2 software, I can sync my Zune to my computer again and stop using my AC adapter so much.

Sheesh, Microsoft can keep this social, if they can't even admin their own forums correctly. All I see everyday is the same people belittle others. This thread needs to be locked. Is there some way I can delete this social account, because this isn't the place for me.

D: why would you want to downgrade, dood?

podcasts not enough to keep you on it? :P

Some people downgrade for the GUI, some because the software no longer has WMP for a backbone and doesn't have all the WMP features (even tho every single one of them can be done with 3rd party apps with no need to completly downgrade and void your warentees)

Some people downgrade because of bugs that are easier to fix then it is to downgrade, some people downgrade due to bugs that cant be fixed.

It just varies. It's usually always like this when a software takes a leap like this, even worse when they prevent people from downgrading easily, even worse then that when it's a rushed holiday release and they forget to add certain things some people concider nessessary.

the thing is, i shouldn't need to download/install 3rd party software that blogs down my computer when the original program that the hardware used could do the job(please don't release a program half finished release it complete when will microsoft learn? and no i don't care that it was basically a shell of WMP11), and slows down the actual program that i will use to upload the music to my ZUNE, heck i can't even get the ZUNE to reconize an Soundtrack as an album, it decides to put it as seperate albums for each artest instead i fear i'm going to have to dig through 50 boxes just to find the CD, then re-rip it just so the ZUNE software detects it as a actual album

god damn, microsoft better come up with an actual fix and not make the users come up with workarounds for their garbage software soon or i'm returning this piece of junk and give apple my business again
