I got the 80GB, no engraving. Zune is doing wonders for people. Now that I think about it, never heard an iPod in all its years come out with something this sweet.

Nice unit! You sould be proud.

The engraving is done by Laser, not the old fashioned cut into the metal type. (see http://www.epiloglaser.com/)
It will have some texture as noted but is not really all that deep although it will wear very well.

Notice how it says the color, art, and inscription are waived?  That leads me to believe that they will cost extra in the future.  Also, the fact that they list color as part of the price is interesting... custom-colored Zunes, anyone?

Just ordered a Zune original in pink for my daughter for xmas. Good place for her to keep/share her music and photos.

I received the Zune Original 8MB I ordered last Tuesday today, direct from China. I was quite surprised at how nice the entire package was. Took some pictures below for those on the fence wondering whether to pick one up or not.

The box when you open it. Included a color poster of the artwork you selected from the Zune Originals site:

The contents of the envelope and bag:

Unboxed:

The Zune close up, the red color is almost maroon, which is different than what I expected from photos I saw. It's a very deep nice color though:

The backside of the Zune with detail of the etching, I picked the Tado etching even though it's a bit cutesy. My first choice, the Takahashi city graphic, is not available on the Originals site for some reason (http://www.coolhunting.com/images/originals_artists-16.jpg). Can one of the mods tell the higher ups at MS to look into that? :P

Another shot of the Zune:

Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase. This will be a nice step up from my six year old second generation ipod (which I love and is still going strong, but it was time to update). The etchings make your player somewhat unique, and the whole presentation was quite unexpected.

That looks awesome. i cant wait until the 80gb is available to get mine

I totally and completely agree with you!

Are you waiting for the Original, or are you just getting any 80 you can find?

My brown Zune30 is still running strong, but I'm tempted by the 80 as I'm almost at capacity right now, and the art looks sweet as hell!!
