hm you sure its fixed? its been about a week and still no shipment confirmation on my red  80 and my moms pink 4 and $440 is still gone ? and no real update of any kind frim microsft.

Now everything is fixed yes. The issue was when it was first launched.

So, I plan on buying the Zune in Red

And if they ever come out with a blue, ill buy a blue casing off of like, ebay, and just stick it on my Zune, and leave the read buttons and stuff. Makes an interesting trim, lol

I wouldn't trade it for anything!  I'm very happy with the final result as frustrating as it was.  Thanks Woody for that excellent synopsis. 

But I still think it's pretty cool Uhlisuh that you have the uncontested first red zune 80!!

I did not even know about the Valentines promotion, my iPod had recently died and i was fed up with Apple and the iPod always dieing 2 gens after getting them, so i had already decided to switch over and get an Zune for my Bday.

I ordered mine around 11 AM on the 15th of January and had it finally delivered on the 14th of February. I did get a refund and an apology. Huh? [:^)]

And this after many, many, many calls to Zune and many email to Bill Gates.

Not that that made any difference.

From what i was told from the higher ups in Microsoft, is that a computer problem with so many orders on the first few days of the product launch overwhelmed their system and they actually lost the orders of those that order on the first few days.

I am sure they worked really really hard on recovering those order details but didn't get them to China before those that had orders a week or more after. Then the major Chinese winter storm hit and most of the country stoped, then the New Year holiday. All those things combined compounded a computer glitch into a public relations nightmare.

So they did tell every single one of us that every Red Zune 80 GB was being processed and made on a first order first come service but that was not the case, specially since most people that order in the end of Jan. got theres in as little as a few days.

It was decided to issue the refund as an appropriate 'apology' for the delay and for fact that our orders were not worked on first. But only to those who were on the originally mishandle batch or orders.

  12. Feb 8th, an apology email is sent out to the Early Adopters saying shipping will still be delayed a few days, but you will get your Zune, and you will also get a refund.
  13. Feb 10th/11th, some Early Adopters get a "Your order has shipped" message with a FedEx tracking code, but some do not. 
  14. Feb 13th/14th, The Red Zune 80's arrive for most Early Adopters, even those who didn't get the shipping message.

Throughout the process, except for those few emails, nobody was able to find out anything about their order status until they had already shipped (and that info came from FedEx, not Zune Originals). The customer "service" department was kept in the dark, and so was useless (or less). In general, it was a frustrating experience all around.

Yeah rang FedEx because i saw they were trying to deliver to my sisters house, but obv no one

was in because my sister is over here in the UK. So I asked them to hold at the depot

until she picks itp up. She goes back this saturday so hopefully it wont be too long!
