re: Re: re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
Mine are up to date as well.  Something interesting happened tonight with my Zune counts.  I usually play songs off of the Zune program when at the computer, but tonight I was ripping CD's for my boys, who don't want them in Zune. So, I was using Media Player and wanted to listen to music, so I plugged my fully synced Zune into the computer to charge, put my headset on to listen to music, and it is sending the playcount from my music directly into my profile here.  the Zune program is not open, just my Internet Connection.  I will have to open the Zune program and see if it goes there when I pull it up.

still no luck for me. it hasnt updated, aside from a few test-software plays, in three or four weeks now.

New update. my playcount just jumped from 9332 to 10459, a 1127 jump. That seems like it bridged the gap from 3.0 update to now. Sweet! I'm very excited, thanks for your hard work.

i'm keeping you updated on my social experience.

i listened to more songs last night, as i studied. heavily on mood music, like Sigur Rós . (social does not like the ó)
Synced this morning, no update. No last song played change, no playcount increase, which was instant in a 2.5 world.
Just coming home from work, I notice that my recent activity reflects my listening to Sigur Rós, and the National, but no playcount change or even any acknowledgement that i did sync this morning ,besides for the recent activity change.  My last song played has not changed either. I synced at about 545am est, and the activity change occured at 800am est

I'm grateful that it'll count the plays eventually, just letting you know what my personal experience has been. And I have no idea why it's typing in italics, i cannot turn it off. :)

edit: now it updated. i guess its hit or miss, but i'm still very happy.

Crap, mine has regressed.  Everything was fine and up to date until about two days ago when my Zune died on me and I had to reboot it.  I reset the link but still not updated.  Pretty strange.  Hopefully it will catch up soon, I listened to my Zune all night at work so I should have a bunch of plays to update and maybe even some badges coming.

I also see that my playcount has increased by several hundred plays. Thanks for the fix. hopefully this is the case for others as well.

re: Re: re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Because some people were having success with changing the data with special characters, I went and changed every letter with an accent mark or unlats.  Result was that everything started counting for me.  hurray!  Of course, I'll never know if that's what fixed it or if I just happened to change it after that particular issue was fixed  :p  Either way, I can now continue my experiment on the shuffle feature to see if my Zune prefers certain artists/songs or if the artists I have more of will filter to the top of my listening list.

so far things are mixed.  I only have one Michael Bolton album and Steel Bar Blues seems to be at the top of my song list whereas Collective Soul, Weird Al, Jimmy Buffet, Lyle Lovett I have most of their albums and they are up in the top. . .  Needs more research  :p

Live dangerously. . . turn shuffle on!

Hey, thanks. This totally worked for me. I should have at least 10,000 plays but now it says I have almost 300 and it's counting my device plays so at least it's working now.

Device plays were stuck for a while, but unlinking and linking my Zune tag did the trick

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
This problem still clearly exists. I know for a fact the device is recording the play counts as I use Zenses to update my last.fm account, which the Zune should do out of the box as well, but that is another story entirely.

The fact of the matter is that a 3rd party tool is clearly doing the job of reading the device plays better than Microsoft, which is ridiculous as this issue has existed for at least a month. I can tell the software is updating play counts, since there is nothing to sync other than play counts. Like everyone else I tested it out to see if playing a song in the software works and lo and behold it did, while like everyone else nothing I've done works to get the device's plays to count.

Other programs you use to update your playcount don't rely on your Windows Live ID and credentials to submit them to our service.

I have no other program updating my play count. I have a separate program to read the play count and update my Last.fm page. If my Last.fm can be updated with ease by a 3rd party program, I expect a first party program & hardware from Microsoft to update my Zune's Social page with the same exact ease.

Hey Jess I finally got my Zune working and updating plays again. I did so much that I'm not sure what fixed it exactly. But IF tags indeed were the issue then MediaMonkey was the solution. It has the ability to clean ID3v1 and 3v2 tags and then reapply them correctly.

The extreme I went to, was creating a new user account then re-setup my Zune under the new account.
