I just upgraded from a Zune 30 to a 120 and really miss having a device eq. It cant' be that hard to throw it into a firmware patch. I'm fine with preset eq choices like the 30 but it'd be great to have a multi-band eq.

Captain Betty...the problem isn't with the ability to code a 'software' EQ solution, but with the effect that would have on performance.

Purely software based EQ solutions tend to eat up a bit of CPU power which would cause a battery drain, and possibly some performance issues.

They made a big mistake when they decided to remove the dedicated EQ functions from the Wolfson DAP.  There's still some hardware that could 'emulate' the functions...but it would require a software based solution and as I explained...those aren't always the best idea.

If the zune hd does not have an EQ, i think I may have to ditch the zune and go over to the Creative Zii Egg, they will most likely have an EQ and they will have a SDHC slot.

Yeah the EGG looks pretty cool and it has an SDHC slot so you can get up to 64GB on the device and swap out 32 GB SDHC cards. Not sure what type of lossless files it handles but if I hear it will play WMA lossless I may also switch to it if it has an EQ and has good sound quality.

The lack of an EQ is Zune's only flaw, hopefully they prefect it in the software and all of the devices.

Totally.. I listened to a new ipod nano today and them suckers are LOUD, it made my zune seem quiet even on 20.. So I say make the zune louder too! maybe just forget the numbers and implement some sort of visually pleasing volume slider thingy.

PLEASE include a comprehensive good sounding EQ in the zune HD. as well as a great DAC and output amp.

- everyones ears and tastes are different
- every pair of headphones are different. some are great out of box. some need a lot of help.
- it is okay to sacrifice some battery life so your music sounds the way you like it.

no EQ was the only reason i didn't get the zune 80 and 120. this is true.

Well at least SOMEONE at MS listened

According to Cnet who attended the Zune event tonight the new zunehd is going to have the EQ presets back. From the looks of it its going to be the HARDWARE based EQ which is what i prefer. So while not a 5-7 Band EQ i can live with this.

The Wolfson Dac is also staying it appears (another good thing)

So while not at Cowon s9 level i think i can upgrade to this and see what happens.

I just saw this article a few minutes ago, SWEET it is done, now we just need a higher capacity model but i'm happy the EQ is back.

The Zune device has been around since 2006 this thread has been around since 2007.  The posters in this thread had very little if anything to do with it.

It doesn't matter now because the ZuneHD has an EQ, all the spamming you did in this thread didn't accomplish anything, all the stupid ignorant posts about how an EQ would kill battery life, and take up so much space on the device, how people should buy more expensive headphones, how people should listen to the music the way the artist intended etc. etc. etc. all that crap you spammed this thread for almost 2 years about was pointless. We now have an EQ back in the newest zune device, you can officially go to hell. You were wrong your arguments were wrong and the Zune team finally wised up and put an EQ in at least for the ZuneHD.
