Plug the device in to get a recent failure, then look at the end of the log for entries related to WUDF****.

 Please send that end portion of the log.

window or zune software needs an update

your version of windows or zune software may need to be ubdater

my zune is not working the usb port of my computer is not showing my zune and whent i run the disc installation it says  system updates required zune software installation cant continue until you've installed one or more required updates. this current version of windows media center isnt supported.Please upgrade your media center cmachine to 2005 with update 2 or later. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkIK=101231

Thanks for the logs.  Although we don't know the exact problem at this point, the "file" that is not found is also installed with Windows Media Player version 11.   A possible fix for XP users may be to install the Zune client, then install or re-install Windows Media Player version 11, then connect the device.

 

If you try this, please let us know if it does or doesn't work.

I already have Windows Media Player 11 on my machine, but if you think it will help, I will uninstall and re-install it.

Downloaded and Re-Installed Windows Media Player 11. No change.

Is there a particular part of WMP11 that I need (and presumably is not installing properly)?

I had WMP 11 on my system, so I uninstalled it via Add/Remove programs.  There was a Windows media format 11 runtime file too, which asked me to remove the zune software first, so I did, then reinstalled the Zune software (from the zunepackage).  Restarted, upgraded WMP to 11.  Restarted yet again, and still the zune got no love.  Still the same error, both visible and in the log.  No errors at all in the installation process, at least not of the level that it actually told me.  I don't know if it's of any help, but one thing I do see looking at my dir c:\windows\wudf*.log is that same error I quoted this morning has been present in the system since the last time I re-installed windows (may 29th to be exact), and I know my XP install was problematic at the time.  (I thought Aden had mentioned, perhaps in another thread, that his affected machine was also a problematic XP install.)
