My ZUNE never worked correctly the entire time I had it.   Now the connection port stopped working as well.   There's no way to charge it or listen to it.  I refuse to send it to M$ for them to charge me an arm and a leg for something that should have been recalled.    Good luck all.

JLucas, Look to see if your Zune is still under warranty. If so, you pay nothing to send it in & get it fixed ... MS even sends you a postage paid box so you pay NOTHING. I did that with mine, and I got it back in just a few days at no cost.

your computer needs fixing. all USB is a standard, two pins data and the other two are 5vdc/ground. front of computer or back shouldn't matter at all.

Not correct...yes, USB is a standard.  However not all ports supply enough current for all devices.  Front ports on desktop computers are generally hub ports and cannot supply the full 500mA USB standard.

OK... I have the 30gb Zune with the 3.1 firmware. I've had it a little over a year. I have just started having this restarting issue. I have totally reformatted the device and reloaded the firmware and media. I have done hareware reboots and tried the battery recondition. Still having shutdowns about 2-3 minutes after starting to listen to music UNTIL.....

I tried to do the battery reset a second time. If you follow the procedure listed in the help section, they tell you to turn the background to always on (to help drain the battery faster.) Guess what.... when I do this I don't get any shutdowns. None. So... give this a try. You'll have a lot less listening time, but should be able to go without shutdowns.

Disclaimer: This works on my 30gb.. I don't know if it will on any other model...

My Zune30 does the restart 4 to 6 times a nite at work.  It may be due to static as posted many times, but this is not the main issue. On restat you lose teh spot you where listening too. This makes these zunes unusable. I have been through all the firmware upgrades, manual battery drain and software updates and the player still does it. Even my 1st 4gig ipod never did this.

MS needs to address this issue or they will have zero market share.

Having similar issues. owned the zune for roughly 2 weeks now have had days where it works perfectly but several bumps on the way. Like others i've been listening to music at work when the zune would restart back to the menu, livable. However other times it would completely shut down with half a battery and start to get very warm and not respond at all, only way i've gotten past this is to wait a few hours and plug it in. There have been other times when shortly after a full charge it would shut down, not respond and get hot and again i'd have to wait. I make repeated long car trips, leave it plugged in the whole time on the trip, works beautifully, fully charged get out of car, unplug and bam back to overheating. This is an issue and i can't even find a number to call the support guys to replace this thing...

I didn't want an iPod, i still don't. but if i get a replacement that doesn't work or even the replacement of a replacement that don't work i WILL go to the dark side and get one.

I had to send my Zune in again due to this issue. I'm convinced that a static charge causes errors in the HDD and that's why it restarts. IMO the Zune Team need to address this, but may prove to be hard since they're in a very humid area. Too bad they can't recreate this problem in house in a dry climate to see if it is climate related.

My Zune restarts somtimes, not rapidly but it's annoying, ive had it happen 2 times in 1 day. (This is a Zune 30 that  never went through Z2K)

The headphone jack may be the solution on my end.  Because now that I think about it, I get this problem almost exclusively when I'm using it in my car, with the auxilliary cord that connects into my car stereo.  (And even then, usually when I stop, or make a movement.)  I'll buy another headphone jack to headphone jack audio cord, and see if that makes a difference.
