Can anyone give an insight if Microsoft intends to fix this problem...ever or can't it be done?????

it isn't a problem, it is a purposeful and intended outcome.

So are u saying that those of us who have the Zunes without the EQ should not expect anything more than what it is?

What I am saying is that MS used a hardware eq chip in the Zune 30, that chip is no longer present in the current Zune 4GB to 120GB models.  It is unknown if the new ZuneHD is going to have an EQ hardware or firmware as they have no released any indepth information on it.  IMO if you are using your Zune or any portable digital device to control the sound when you have it hooked up to a stereo or car you're doing it the wrong way.  Most docking stations do not feature an EQ option.  This "petition" (a horrible choice of words) does nothing for the EQ argument as a whole and many people refuse to discuss how they would like to see an EQ implimented into the Zune (as it cannot be done by hardware so that leaves a firmware EQ as the only option).  To do that you would need to use the wishlist section and openly engage the Zune Team and other members of the community in that discussion which again is something many people refuse to do, in their ignorance they think this "petition" is enough.

Thanks for the reply. I do hope they address this in some way if it is possible.

Their lack of involvement in this thread should be enough of an address about the issue imo.  If you do feel inclined and if you do feel the need to have an EQ I again would suggest using the wishlist section of the forums and instead of just mindlessly putting down "signed" actually start a discussion.  Keep in mind that as far as you or I know the hardware is not going to be present to support an EQ so the only option is for that of a firmware EQ.  Simply starting a thread with "I would like to see a firmware EQ" isn't enough, I would give examples of what DMP devices use firmware EQ's (there are plenty of them, Sony for example) and what software uses firmware EQ's (Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc etc).  Give examples for them as to how you would like to see them implimented so on and so forth.

We should know pretty soon the the ZuneHd has an EQ, with tegra this will be a very simple task for a powerful processor like the tegra and will have battery life to spare.

Agreed, especially with the tegra processor , they can't use the same bull *** excuse about the EQ and battery life for the ZHD.

I heard that the new zune upgrade remove the equalizer.  If this is true, WHY???  Every player I known have at least a preset equalizer if not a custom.  I am a stickler for sound quality so without the equalizer as a feature, the zune player is useless.   Right now, I am looking for a new player.  If there's not an upgrade to correct this feature, I may have to look elsewhere.  For anyone who are, interested in adding a custom equalizer as well as presets to the Zune, please respond.  Hopefully, the Zune department would take this into consideration.Tongue Tied [:S]

Which update ver on what device?  My z30 is still got the EQ, and i still dont use it, the range of outputs i use mean that setting for one sounds crappy on another (car, desk speakers, headphones) ...  anyways, please, look else where, check every feature on every device you think you might get, the last thing we (sic) need here is another unhappy customer....  so by all means, thats not a threat...

I have the ZUNE 120 and not having a EQ is really messing with my songs. I recently messed up my Skullcandy earbuds and it has really deminished the quality of my music. ZUNE needs to add an optional EQ for those of us who want to add it to there device

??? did i miss something...  you messed your overpriced headphones so now it the zunes fault it doesnt have an EQ.....   thats Vulcan logic there....

I guess I'm not blind then.  I just got the 120 and was surprised that I couldn't find the EQ anywhere. It's in my 30GB and really expected it in the 120.  This sucks.  EQ is definitely a must!

WOW, so you havent been paying attention for the last 2 years then?

I hope you are right, but just the fact that the processor has been switched to Tegra doesn't mean it can implement the EQ any easier than the current processor...  However, it has native support for several audio codecs (including AAC, AMR, WMA, and MP3) which at least suggests that media players are an expected application.
