restart issue

i received a new 80GB zune replacement. i had this issue the first time i used it. yet some of my friends who have to same zune, same firmware update, dont have this problem. whether it be a problem with firmware or the device, microsoft needs to do something already. I bought my zune because i believe for the same price as an ipod, i would be getting more for my money (wireless, radio, etc..)..i'd hate to switch to an ipod. MS fix this!

re: restart issue

So has anyone been able to update to the 2.5 version, because I can't find it except for here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926770

I would hope that this would fix the problem but I can't seem to get to it

or maybe this is for something else, but it does say "Zune device"

re: restart issue

I'm trying to find all the threads where people are talking about device reboots.  Please upgrade to the now available Zune software and firmware version 2.5.  It is availabe now on http://www.zune.net.  We have fixed some of the issues around device reboots.  I cannot guarantee that we have fixed them all, but definately some.

I'd like to get more info to the product team about the reboots people are still seeing.  If after upgrading to 2.5 you still see a reboot, give me some good descriptive details on what the device was doing leading up to the reboot.

Thanks

If you're a Zune Team member, why don't you have a "Z" on your Zune Card?  Just curious.

I have not installed 2.5 yet (I will when I get home).  To summerize this thread for you, people are listening to music (not videos, podcasts, or radio) and the Zune reboots.  It's random.  I could go an entire week with no reboots, or it could happen 10 times in as many minutes.  No suggestions made thus far, either here or from other sites, have helped.

Fantastic.  I am very glad to hear that.  Everyone else, please reply on whether or not you see this with the 2.5 upgrade.

restart issue
TRY THIS
My Zune reboots randomly also, and i have read all or most of the scenarios in which they happen. I think i may have a fix. Most of the restarts happen during high friction situations, (example: sitting at computer, sliding in and out of a car, so on). Some people think it might be due to their "third party headphones", I am 99.9% sure that headphones are not the cause. All headphones are generically built the same. But i have heard that the Zune has alot of safety circuitry built into it so that it shuts down when it receives a bad electrical input (like a power surge, a short, or something not normal). Other than the headphone jack, there is only one other outlet for electrical input, the sync port. I have covered mine with ESD (electro-static discharge) tape and used it without any more reboots, it could be helping or it could be coincidence. If covering the sync port with a non-conductive material yields positive results, then Microsoft should manufacture little rubber caps to put into the connector when not in use. That's all i got. try it out, let me know what you get.

re: restart issue
The update seems to have solved the problem for me too - no restarts in an hour of playing when usually it restarts after 2-3 songs. I don't know whether to kiss microsoft or punch them for not doing it sooner.
