re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?
Is anyone else appalled that the Zune Team has not commented on this problem other than the initial posted "solution" that doesn't seem to work for anybody? I should think it would be obvious by now that several of us are having this problem and we're pretty pissed about it. I really hope that they're busy working on a REAL solution and that's why they haven't commented yet. Otherwise this situation is just utterly ridiculous. I just hope that I can get the software installed before the licenses on my Zune Pass tracks expire, because ALL of my music is from Zune Pass. If the licenses expire and I can't install the software, I might as well just use my Zune as a paperweight.

Disabling System Restore confirmed working.  It just took a moment for it to start the first time.  The trouble was worth it, though, the new interface is SLICK!  And it's so much faster than the old software.

-edit-

Well, I'm not quite sure how that happened.  haha, sorry for triple post.

re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?

I finally got the zune to install, well to be honest I did get it to install last night but it started then turned back into the old version.

This time it seems to be correct because when it worked for the short time last night it did not say it was a success installing.  What I had to do was turn off the one care firewall, turn on the windows firewall, and tell the windows firewall to use recommended settings.  After that it installed easily.

This is on a vista 32 machine.

re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?
I haven't got any idea what to do now, I'm still getting this:

Installation Failed

Setup must stop because the required package '%1!s!' failed to install.

Error code: 0x81000109

This is for every method and after all fixes suggested and it wont give me any other error. I'm not very happy about this and hopefully someone can help me....

re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?
Well I uninstalled everything related with Zune, then used Unzoone.  Downloaded the microsoft zune package, ran the startzune.exe and now I'm pretty much back at square one.   Everytime i try to open Zune the program simply shuts down and I get the error::

EventType : clr20r3     P1 : zune.exe     P2 : 2.1.888.0     P3 : 47312b3b
P4 : zuneshell     P5 : 2.1.0.0     P6 : 47312a92     P7 : 279     P8 : 1c
P9 : system.typeloadexception

I have system restore turned off, Firewall On.

re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?
Solution for '%1!s!' error on Vista Ultimate:

First, turn off system restore:
Go into the Control Panel->System And Maintenence->System
Click 'System Protection' on the sidebar, and untick all of your drives.
Apply settings and start Zune Setup.

If you then get another error message, enable and start the firewall:
Click Start->Run and type "services.msc"
Find "Windows Firewall" and double click it.
Change it from "Disabled" to "Manual" and click start.
Close the the window and run Zune Setup.

re: setup tells you that you are missing a package?
I don't get why the software fails to install. It always gives the same error message.

Setup must stop because the required package 'Zune' failed to install.
Could not access network location SystemFolder.
Could not access network location SystemFolder.
Error code: 0x80070643

Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this error? I am running on Windows XP SP2. Suggestions are much appreciated.
