re: Music Collection Issues

Each artist has their own folder which contains all the appropiate albums, all of which are located in the main zune folder within my "My Music" folder.  And whats weird is that when I look at the main folder for all the artists, it has mini images of each album inside of the appropiate artists folder, i.e. Beastie Boys folder shows the cover art for Hello Nasty, Pauls Boutique, Licensed to Ill, etc, so the original folders still show the proper images that go with the proper albums.  When I open the Beastie Boys "The Mix-up"(their newest cd) folder it has a .jpeg image and when I view it, it shows the wrong cover(Bizarre's "Hannicap Circus").  This is true with some other Beastie Boys albums, but they just have different beastie boys cover art for the wrong album, so its like all the cover arts are present, but they are assigned to different albums or different artists, or different artists cover arts are assigned to them.

Also, I just added a few new albums to my collection today after I updated the software and it doesnt d/l the album info, track info, year, etc.  I've had to enter the track info manualy and the album info as well(for whatever reason I cant seem to find a way to edit the year).  Is this something that was taken out or is it another issue that needs to be worked on.  With the previous Zune software it would update the info within a few seconds but now I've waited atleast 30 seconds for it to update and no activity.  Just something that you guys may want to take note of.

re: Music Collection Issues
Yea the first page changes did help alot with my library but like everyone else there's still a handful of songs that are not right. My biggest pet peeve right now is the inability to easily "right click" and change the properties of my files. We definetely should have more control over our media files through the software since, at least for me, is the main software I use for arrange, re-naming, deleting, etc. my files. Having to explore the folders themselves is a really big inconvinience

re: Music Collection Issues

With all due respect, this is not acceptable. We need to know if a fix is going to be worked on. My library is toast just like the others. 95% of my music is my own Retail CD collection, ripped to the previous Zune software versions over the last year. I never fiddled with any tags or anything and my Library was always labeled perfectly. The Zune software handled everything for me.

Now comes new Zune software and it destroys your music library upon install? You can list every fix in the world here. I am not going in and fiddlling with windows files, deleting this file and that, re-installing, etc. Sorry if that sounds uncooperative, I just don't feel this is something the end user should have to deal with. Any implication that this is somehow partially our fault as end-users is rediculous at best and enrages me.

BOTTOM LINE: My library was perfect on both the previous Zune software and hardware yesterday. Now it is obliterated completely upon upgrading. There is nothing more to be said. Fix it now. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE!!! BELIEVE US!!

I have been a staunch supporter of Microsoft but this is an unexcusable error. I don't want to overstate the importance of this, but this error will be the end of the Zune product line if a full fix isn't released within 24-48 hours. Even then, if my libray has to be re-ripped because of this, I am done with the Zune.

re: Music Collection Issues
Zune Staff,

Is there going to be a update/patch to fix the music library issue we are all having? Or, will we need to find our own fix for this? Because if there will be a fix, I would rather remain patient than go ahead and try finding a fix for this

Thanks.

I agree. "Right Click" has always been one of the greatest things Microsoft has had in regards to file-management, and it was rather removed from the software :(

XP Pro-zune 30-1.0 to v2 dissapointed so far...let's pray for a fix soon

whoa! a lil tense are we?

Not at all man, just frustrated.  You try telling a non-techical person how an "upgrade" for software completely tweeks your music collection to a state of a jumbled mess.  If I was only dealing with 30 albums or so that would be one thing.  But when your collection is larger than the zune and she picks and chooses things from it by the album art, that all goes out the window.

I'm sure there will be a fix that works for me so I'm just praying for that to happen soon, that's all.  Thanks for being so woried about me though! :-)

Believe me, I know it will be better, it's just a matter of time I'm sure.

re: Music Collection Issues
well, deleting the files worked (mostly), and, even though it took forever, i finally got my album art back right (i think).
thanks for the fix, but seriously, you guys should get on this and prevent this from happening.  i don't think most people would go to this much trouble.  i think they would just uninstall, return their zune, and get an ipod.

Nicely said.  I don't even want an ipod, but if I have to get one so that I can have all of my music organized properly, I'll just have to bite the bullet.

48 hours, or else I'm walking out on the "social" as well -

@ zmanaaa

Thanks for the tip, but it's not nearly close to a fix.  Also, right-clicking column headers when you try to edit track info does not allow you to view any other track info; it only takes the editing cursor highlight off the track.

re: Music Collection Issues
Following the instructions fixed the worst of the mixup.  Things look more or less right in list view, but in browse view, it seems to think that album = album+artist, which means my various collections are being incorrectly interpreted as separate albums.  This is really annoying, and I can't see a way to set an option in the UI to just use the Album tag as the album.  Can you please fix this?

Non nobis, Domine, sed nomine Tuo da gloriam.

48 hours?  No software gets fixed in 48 hours.  It will take probably at least a week or two to get a new build tested.

The Zune team has acknowledged this issue.  They will work on it and they are trying to get feedback from the forums.
