Well then why are there so many things going around that there were shipping problems and stores are pushing back their shipping dates to early December?

There are no things like that. The only talk of December is the Zune Originals won't be available for the 80GB verison until December. People reported on it, others took it incorrectly and assumed the 80GB verisons were not coming out at all until December (which is incorrect).

No stores (as far as I know, but in truth they can do whatever they want with their shipments and it's not Microsoft's fault) pushed back the 80GB version. Most just have not received their shipment yet and will most likely get it tomorrow or Thursday.

This happens constantly in the gaming industry and it gets very confusing but you'll be able to pick one up shortly.

Have you looked at Amazon recently? No delivery until Deceber 14th last I looked. No, it looks like there are none to be had.

re: We're listening!
One reason I haven't bought a Zune yet, though I will buy one in the near future, is because there is no alarm clock/alarm clock dock! I see the Zune as serious competition for the Ipod, finally someone, but how can you be considered a serious competitor if you don't offer the same functionality....like an alarm clock! There needs to be a custom equalizer too. How can "you make it you" if you can't even select your own EQ settings? Customizable fonts would be great too or atleast make the font about 2 to 4 sizes smaller. I like the words being big, especially when driving down the highway, but is it necessary for the driver behind me to be able to read the menu also? Movies and tv shows need to be available for purchase on the marketplace.  I would love a browser. Unless I want the artist title to be various artist, various artist shouldn't exist. I hope there are multiple colors for the Zune 80 when it's available on Zune Originals.

I refuse to get an Ipod, Creative players have to many problems, and my 2nd gen Dell DJ is on it's last leg.....Make this stuff happen so I can finally find a decent solution! I don't want to wait until the 3rd gen Zune, especially when all these problems could be fixed on the current gen.

re: We're listening!
I need more rating choices than "like it" and "don't like it". How about "like it as a friend" or "sort of like" or "like it but ont in like with it"? Rating something is more than an on/off kind of thing. So more choices please.

re: We're listening!
In echo to most of the posts here about features that were removed and need to be returned:
Auto-playlists, ID3 tag editing, and 5 star rating system. I understand that the software has been rebuilt from the ground up to be separate from WMP11, but the reason i liked the original software was because it had all the WMP11 features that made me switch from iTunes last year (despite being an iPod user back then!).  Those three are essential when attempting to manage libraries that are 3000+ songs! Really right now I'd love to just use the old software with podcast support, and the new way faster firmware.  The firmware really looks great and is quite snappy now!

Other suggestions:
  • Enable removable storage.  If I'm going to carry a hard drive in my pocket, I'd rather not need a flash drive as well for my files/portable apps.  I've talked to several friends about the Zune (many have never even seen one before) and the lack of this feature is definitely a turn-off to a lot of people.
  • Wireless sync without having to open the Zune software on the computer... I use other programs for playing music on a daily basis-- namely WMP11 because it doesn't run the system down and integrates nicely into the taskbar
  • On player playlist managment-- if I could click for the presently playing song and have an option for "Add to playlist" with a flyout menu of the available playlists to add to + make new play list (a-la right click menu in WMP11) and then sync those changes back to the desktop client... that would be AMAZING!
  • Use the wireless features to automatically update podcasts when you have a wireless connection
  • Read text files and sync text/picture RSS feeds to the Zune.  I know that may seem borderline PDAish, but I think that a lot of the times where i'm idly listening to music are also the times it would be great to have access to that kind of information

re: We're listening!
I want the old home menu back on the firmware, or at least an option. I think the option for the old zune skin would be good.

Heavy Hitter Wishes:
A clock
A return of Find album info
A graphic equalizer
The five star rating system
Automatic rating of songs
Autoplaylists
Support for lyrics
Less lag when accessing the pictures directory on the device. It is VERY slow. I have alot of high quality images on my Zune from a 4+ megapixel camera and it take a few secons to load the pictures directory each time I want to access it.

Little Baby (in comparison) wishes
add now playing to quicklist
Better Orangization of files (I have some things named by number and it currently goes like this: #59 #6 #60)
The option to rotate images on the device.
Easier editing of album info and such, vie the advanced tag editor that was removed.
Visual options in general. The few you give us are unsatisfactory.

I am a picky user, but I think enough users have hit my big issues that it is obvious something needs to be done. If you say your focus groups didn't like features and you stand by your decisions, then make these things options. You could have an "Advanced Interface" in the software settings. On the firmware, make the clock an option.

Please listen.

re: We're listening!
pedrogammos57 basically hit the nail on the head the find album info was a big thing for me and in the artist third of the browse feature artists on soundtracks are listed as various artists and not the artists that did the song like they were in the older version.  That being said once all that can be fixed, brought back, or improved this will be a pretty sweet program.

re: We're listening!

Things that I wish had not been changed in the software:

  • Items have to be in your collection if you want to add them to a playlist, they have removed the option to drag items from windows explorer in order to populate a playlist.
  • You can no longer drag items between albums or genre's.
  • You can't sort by genre.
  • You can't search by genre.
  • You can only edit one file at a time.
  • You can't increase the size of the album art in browse view.
  • You can no longer send albums to your inbox.  I used this feature as a sort of wish list / to be downloaded area.
  • Some of the fonts used are very hard to read, it would be nice to have an option to adjust their size.
  • I would love to have an option to close the column of songs in browse view.  They should added a view like the one in the marketplace when you look at the individual albums.
  • A separate category like podcasts but for audio books.

re: We're listening!
Other than the stuff already stated, my only beef with Zune is the Zune Card. I was under the impression that the Zune Social would be so awesome that it would replace last.fm as my music social. But most/all of my songs don't appear on my Zune Card because my tags aren't perfect. Just copy last.fm and read the song title and the artist, and for the album art, have the Zune software upload a 90x90 pixel pic, its a small enough file. And the Zune software/hardware should display the contributing artists, for example, the artist field for the song Success from Jay-z's album is: Jay-Z; Nas. But the Zune software/hardware displays the album artist instead and just says Jay-Z.

It seems a lot of the users' issues with the new Zune software could be solved by allowing the Zune hardware be compatible with WMP11 (might as well add playsforsure support too). And let the new Zune software be for "lightweight" users and WMP11 for advanced users.

Go buy KiD CuDi's album!

re: We're listening!
how about using the wifi to show what you are listening to other zunes? so that maybe we could search each other on our zunes and see what our friends are listening to right now. or maybe chatting with the zunes? like chatting for the zune using the zune player? i got a great name for it too...

re: We're listening!
One thing that I really do like about the new software is that if you have shuffle turned on and double click to start a playlist, it starts on a random song from that playlist, rather than the first song and becoming random after that.

I miss the search as you type feature.
Also, I don't like that the search feature switches you back to browse view. I like the list view, so I think I should be able to navigate using it without being forced to use another view.

And, to Windozeizlame, you can display your current song to others nearby, its in the setting on your zune under wireless. Select the option with the center button and your presence will change from basic to current song. If you want Zune chat, ask for Zune chat, but please be familiar with the update before you ask for something that is already there.
