Zune 30 freezing issue - [Update and Resolution]

Hey guys, I know this sucks, and I can promise you that we are working on resolving the issue. Wish I had more insight right now, but I promise I will post here when I know something.

In the meantime, just hang tight, and don't go performing any Zune 30 surgery or anything...

So what if they give you a hard time, you didn't know this was going to happen... The Zune has been fine up until this happened, and we should all remember that. It's likely this is one of those "one in a million" bugs which only occurs under specific circumstances (ie. date related). To give you an example, a previous employer of mine had a product which crashed every leap day because of a firmware bug (nobody thought to try leap year when testing the product). This kind of thing could happen to any device, even the immortal iPod (which has it's share of problems anyway)...

I let the power run out. Connected it to the pc and no dice.

BTW: It's connected to the pc now and it is not recognizing my Zune as a storage device (as it typically does).

Yeah I took mine out this morning and blamo... It came up with the normal screen then rebooted itself and now I just have the startup screen with a full progress bar and thats it. It wont do crap. My computer will not even recognize it when I plug it in. I am beyond pissed. If this cannot be repaired easily by the user and very soon, I demand a new device or my money back. I should've got an IPOD

I have 2 bricked 30's. This is ridiculous. If its not fixed soon I'm done wuth zunes.

Forgot one thing if you change the date on your PC to Jan 1st 2009 it will not re-brick it.. You make a good point, however there are those of us who are not willing to be bothered sending in a device with no warranty. Also if this happened to my 80gb Zune I would not be tinkering with it.

Add my Zune 30 which is out of warranty to the list. Ridicule over this from the Apple fan boys is definitely going to be unpleasant haha.

I just noticed this problem has appeared on the front page of the CNN website. This is starting to turn into a publicity nightmare for Microsoft. I am confident that Microsoft is going to have to definately provide some kind of fix/compensation for this since the large media outlets are starting to cover it.

I am in agreement with the folks that say this fix is probably not going to be easy. If the device is stuck at bootup and a computer cannot recognize it then I don't see how it can be fixed unless there is some kind of secret debug mode you can access on the device to allow it to be connect to a PC at a lower level.

I am sad this is happening but glad I wasn't the only one. My Zune will reboot this time of year when getting in and out of the car. I thought that was the case this morning but no. My 15 month old daughter was fussy because she couldn't listen to her They Might Be Giants (ABC's and 123's) this morning. :(

What about us users who live outside the US, i got given a Zune 30 as a present from a relative who was visiting us from the USA.

will the fix work for me in london too, i just wonder how the hell a bug like this managed to get by testers within microsoft.

Got on here to see if there was a problem and I guess there is. My daughter's Zune 30gb is also frozen so hopefully this gets resolved or I will have one ticked off kid on my hands!

Ive been away from my zune cuz of the holidays, so it hasnt been turned on for the "problem" should i just keep it that way until a potential patch is released or should i turn it on to make it have the problem in order for a potential patch to fix it?
