re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
I didn't do anything to mine (just looked at it all morning) and about 10 minutes ago it updated with a few device plays from the past day.

However this is what I mean by sporadic. For me I'll get a device update, then nothing for a couple days, then another big update.

An update from a previous post. I erased, re-formatted, and resynched by zune80 last night but I didn't see any changes in my counts or plays, however, just within the last ten minutes, I have seen my counts jump from 3108 this morning to 3275 this afternoon. It would appear that the re-format has taken care of my device play count problem. I will double check later after work just to make sure. On a side note, the format also fixed a problem I had with track times not progressing past 0.00. Just FYI. Cheers.

Please do update us on your situation. I'm a bit reluctant to do a full re-format and re-sync until I'm sure it isn't something on the server side. I've had the 0:00 track time issue a few times, so I'd like to hear how your Zune performs today. Thanks! :)

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Same here... I tried relinking, and nothing changed.  I hesitate reformatting my zune... Because it took so long to download everything I have on it.  However if someone out there can GUARANTEE that my plays will be updated on my zune after I do this, I will, reluctantly take a few hours of my busy day to reformat.

SO, does reformatting work after you've tried everything else, or is it a problem on the social end of things?>

WHEN will this be fixed?>

I'm with fridfam on this one.  It takes awhile to resync and I would hate to lose random music that happens to be on my device but not my comp.  The reformat seems to work with 50% of the users.  Is there a list of metadata or did I just miss it?

Update: I just hooked up my Zune and it updated to include the Art Brut album I listened to last night on my device.  However, no other plays from the last 3 weeks seem to be appearing

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
so it looks like things are beginning to update after formatting my zune and clearing everything of it's "memory" from the software, then relinking and resyncing. i went through all my music and removed weird characters like umlauts, accent marks, tildes, upside-down "!" and "?" marks, as well as $ symbols. now i'm wondering if all it needed was a format, because those characters tripping up zune seems a little weird.. chinese/japanese characters i can understand, but i'm not sure. i'll be interested in knowing what the root cause of all of this is.

Mine is updating now also.

I am so glad i didn't reformat and change all the symbols or any of the other 'fixes' that have been suggested. Needless hassle.

Zune just needs to get this device count issue fixed for good then we will all see it wasn't our Zunes.

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
Ok..so I played some songs on the way home from work and although it has taken a while to display my latest, it appears to be counting my plays again.  My count this morning was 3108, and now it is 3363.  It seems to have updated the last week or so at once as well.  So far so good.  This is by no means a guarantee that it will work for anyone else and is far from proven technical fact, however, it appears to have worked for me.  Of course, it could all be coincidence, in which case I will be crying tomorrow when it doesn't stay working...O.o  !Good Luck!

Try this for me - assuming your "recently played" is updating from the software.

Connect your device to your PC. Log in.

Go to "settings," "device," "linking."

If it says "Your device is linked to Zune Tag <whatever>", click "remove link."

Otherwise, check the radio button for "Link my Zune to a Zune Tag"

You can choose whether or not to enable Marketplace purchases, that's not relevant here. (The checkbox below)

Click "Next" at the bottom.

Sign in and hit "confirm."

You should now see "Your Zune is now linked to <tag name>."

Unplug your device, play some music on it.

Then plug your device back in and sync.

Post here whether this worked to upload device plays.

Tried all the steps you suggested, 1st attempt said "cannot read device, disconnect then reconnect device" so did and it connected & my playcount jumped up by about 611, thank you for resolving this problem

Jessica,
Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, I just tried it, and again, no dice.  I'm reluctant to try the whole Zune reformat/reinstall that others have suggested, but I'll do it if you guys don't come up with anything else.  (Or I may decide it's not worth keeping a public record of my plays for all to see...)  Either way, I appreciate all the efforts going into fixing the problem.

re: Re: re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Tried that too.  Played a few "Tool" short songs... Relinked my zune after removing link and readding, (second time doing so)

Played "usefool idiot"  and "intermission"

Cant find them.

Everything else in the 3.0 update, rocks, except this.  My playlist on the device isnt accurate, neither is the number listed online.  the software works great, and I really shouldnt complain, but things should work!  The zune is going to start looking bad to the competitors.. and to zune lovers.
