I have a better solution!!!!! Destroy your zune and buy something better!!!! It worked for me. By the way Xperson 56, Your an idiot! You can press a button to turn on the zune that dosent necesarilly mean that button powers the zune. You can also turn on the zune without the headphones plugged in. GTFO!!! Dont by a Zune, its junk!

Hey don't be a *** ok. He was just trying to help. SO you GTFO. God, what an ass. XPerson56 have a good holiday too. Ok now, I called up the Zune support line and they said I should let my Zune run until the battery completely dies and then completely charge it full again. Now I haven't been able to try that yet so I do not know if it works. It might it might not but hell what else do we have. If it does work please let us know here on the forums.

Good luck I will be trying this out on mine soon as well.

Funny thing is, I always unplug my headphones. :(

Yes, I work at Best Buy. Yes, I sell more Zunes than iPods.

The Solution  as stupid as it may seem if you unplung your headphones you barrery will be fine in the morning.

When you plug in the headphones zune go on, so something is in the jack that energizes the system.

It has absoulutely NOTHING to do with whether the headphones are plugged in or not. I have not had my headphones plugged in even once since I've had this problem. XPerson please do a little more research before you say you have a solution to something.

re: The Empty Battery

I too have been experiencing this problem, on a daily basis. I have found out the following: When this happens, for instance, I have noticed that at times, the screen will stay on - regardless of the timeout value. Resetting the device works, but the problem reappears. Other times, setting the hold switch will not allow the device to shut off.

To solve this, I did the following: Perform a hard reset. To do this, restart the device by pushing back and up. Immediately, push back, left, and play and hold them until you see an information screen. Allow the device to perform the hard reset. Then, sync with Zune software and allow the firmware update to proceed. I have never had the problem after this.

re: The Empty Battery

I'm having the same problems as everyone above (zune 80).  I was wondering if anyone heard from MSFT about a solution or upcoming firmware upgrade.  Also, has anyone tried the down+back method to see if that works?

hope they resolve this soon.

re: The Empty Battery
Mine did it for the first time when I noticed it this morning. I know last night I had it truned off, locked and headphones unplugged. As I never had the problem since the firmware upgrade I'm pretty sure we can add this to list of issues.

It will be interesting to see if Micro$oft comes up with an update soon or tries to ignor it until after the new year and holiday sales.

re: Firmware issues
I've only had my 30gig zune for a few days now so I can't really compare with other firmware. But it seems when I hold the play/pause button to turn it off, it just hibernates instead. Heres a question, I remember updating it after turning it on I would see the Zune loading screen, now when I power it on it goes straight to the menu. I tried the back+down combo to turn it off completly that seemed to work.

re: The Empty Battery

Gee, that response up there was uncalled for.  We're looking for solutions here and I think if you can't offer anything but an insult to someone else who had a suggestion, then your message was tons more worthless than what you thought the one you were replying to was.

I don't know - there might be something because I think you are right - the headphone jack is connected to the power - but I am not so sure that is the problem.  It happened to me again today - charged it to green last night.  Unplugged it all except for the headphones.  This late morning, the battery meter was less than half.  I did have my headphones connected this time.  I recharged it again this morning, and after unplugging all, I didn't even have the headphones connected.  It's about 12 hours later without use and the battery is still full.  Hmmmmmm...

Either way, if it's a workaround, that would be certainly cool - but still a nuisance but at least it would make my battery life more predictable.  It sucks to charge it the night before only to have little or no battery on your way to work the following day.

The way it's affecting people with 80g and 30g would definitely point to a firmware thing.  I just hope/wish someone from Microsoft is monitoring these threads....

Uhh, no - that is not what you said.  If you had said that, I doubt anyone would have come back to you.  But anyway, what is it with criticizing the person for a suggestion.  If it didn't work and it's not the solution, then we state that and move on.  I'd rather people try finding solutions until MS fixes this than have a thread that is just going to die without a bump.  We need to focus our energy on getting MS to fix this thing which seems to be a long way off if they are still suggesting you to let the battery die and then recharge, as someone stated above.  I have no problem testing that portion because my battery is near dead when I wake up in the morning anyway, and so far, no luck.  :(

re: The Empty Battery

I've had mine for a year now and never had any problems.  As many of you, I'm having the same issue with my battery.  But also, I'm having a problem with the software not recognizing the zune us plugged in.  It shows the battery symbol in the middle as if the battery is dead, then i plug it in, the zune logo shows and the screen comes back up, the software says the device is connected, but within 2 minutes the battery symbol in the middle reappears and then the software says no device connected.

Has Zune/Microsoft support given a resolution to this.  I listen to my zune all the time and never ever had problems and I really don't want problems now.  As each of you, I need my device to work properly.  This is really frustrating. Oh and I didn't have my headphones connected when this was happening, so it wasn't the headphones.

Are you all going to tweak the firmware, so we don't have these problems?

re: The Empty Battery
It can't be the headphones. I'm having the issue and I never even use my headphones. I only use my Zune when I'm in my car. And I'm having the same issue with the software not detecting my zune. It detects it for a second but then the battery icon comes back up and it stops detecting it. I'm really frustrated now that I have a year old product that is suddenly useless.
