THANK YOU FOR THE FIX!  Of course I won't be able to get back the 2hrs of frustration I had trying to manually fix the problems with the upgrade.  Now I can calmly state that the issue has been resolved.

I had the problem originally mentioned after upgrading from 1.X to 2.0...namely "multiple tracks for the same music file being added to the collection and the second of the tracks being put into the incorrect album and artist." I applied StreetChariot's fix and I'm all better now.  Thanks, gang!

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.
I have done the new instructions at the beginning of this twice. My album art is good, but this still isn't working. Compilation albums have each song in a whole different album, and since there I can't just drag them all together like before, it's a problem. Also, my main problem is with a particular album, the album info is something I've never even heard of! Seriously. It is right in WMP, but not in My Music, but as Zach said you can edit, you can't. I have no way of changing it in Zune or in the folder. Do you have any solutions to these problems yet? I want it to work!

This is a problem that should have been cought and fixed before zune 2.2 was even released to the public.  I am very angry and upset.

Well, this has been an interesting debacle to say the least. When I first upgraded I had the mindset that this was just a re-enactment of those few bad AIM upgrades. And in all honesty, despite the ability to chose what the interface looks like...I liked the older version much, much more.

It took a bit too long to fix it, but thankfully I got it done. Thanks for the help everyone. Lets try not to have this kind of mishap in the future upgrades, yes?

That seemed to work for me.  The only thing now is that when my albums update or whatever when I put on a new song it only updates in my device's library and not the one in my collections.  Also, there seems to be a whole lot of "Unknown Albums"...

Looks like it fixed the album and song issues but the artwork is not correct now

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.
At first I thought I was unaffected by the problem, but upon closer inspection I saw was.  Fortunately, the fix is working for me.  Now is there a fix for the metadata problem with videos?  My tv shows used to be all grouped together according to their series name, now they're all displayed under tv shows according to episode title and not grouped together.

Actually, I take that back, it didn't fix all of them.

Ok. Tried just deleting music in software then restoring. Tried renaming the files to restore the metadata. Neither worked. Now what? I reinstall the software? should I uninstall first or just reinstall over my current software? I'm getting really frustrated....this is waaaay too much work for an update
