Zune 30 freezing issue - [Update and Resolution]

Two more 30s locked up here.

Interesting theory about the 365/leap day issue. The only problem I can see with that theory is I've never seen a date available on the device. Time, yes, but never date. Maybe it is deep down in the bowels of the system. But if it isn't something like a 365/leap year issue, how we get a fix when the device won't even be recognized by a PC to get an update ?

And if it isn't a 365/leap year, why did all of the 30s everywhere die at basically the same time. For those of you that had it on when it happened, what time did it occur and what time zone are you in ?

I too am worried about screen burn-in. I'm hoping my battery dies soon. I've noticed the device is warm, so I know it is discharging.

I appreciate the people telling us the answer is to tear apart our system. If it comes to that, I think I can do it. But for now, I'll wait (impatiently) for answers and explanations. (And yes, I want both !)

Yup mines frozen......its also hot as crap, I think i might set it outside in case it does burst into flames lol.

When I worked there (when the zune came out until over a year ago) I fixed countless iPods and maybe a handful (5-10) Zunes.


Well that would stand to reason since there are about 20 billion times more ipods out there then there are zunes.......

My 30G Brown was frozen when i woke up this morning.  I checked Zune.net of course and came to leanr that EVERYONES 30G froze. WTF?

well i went online to see if there was anyway to reset the battery. I know the soft reset ( Back button + Up D-pad ) but there has to be another way. Since my Zune is already past waranty, i found a site that showed me how to open up my Zune and disconnect my battery.

Disconnected the battery for a about 30 sec. and then reinstalled it all and closed up my Zune. It works again, but i immeadiatly plugged in my headphones and i havent stopped it from playing, nor have i let the Zune program recognize that its connected. but so far so good, my zune is working in perfect order, without the loss of all my songs.

Go ahead and try it on yours, i did the same steps to my sisters White 30G but it was to no success. Her's keeps on freezing at the same place. I guess i got lucky.

Yep, same here
My 30 GB is stuck on the startup screen.
It happened in the middle of the night, I fell asleep listening to a podcast and woke up to the frozen screen.
This is NOT GOOD.

Now what?

Reporting in for three z30's.  Mine, my wife's and my kid's friend's.  All with 3.1 firmware.  All bricks. :/

Black Wednesday, 2008.  *sigh*

Hope everyone has a great new year.  Good luck to you zune programmers.  I hope you guys are able to get some partying done after this.

I love my 30GB Zune, have had zero trouble until today when I turned it on for some tunes and like every single 30GB Zune in the entire world it is now frozen at the start-up screen. 

Help us Microsoft and fix our Zunes or there might be anarchy in the Lightning [li] Zune Nation...Lightning [li]

If as many have suggested, this is due to some firmware error due to the leap year, (and I think the timing being one day short of the new year lends credence to this theory), I would hope the Zune Support Idea [I] could at least let us know that, even if the fix is not in yet it would put many, including myself, at ease that Microsoft is at least a little concerned with their customers.
 
Unacceptable, completely unacceptable, I am not angry, but I'm really disappointed. Confused [8-)]

Hopefully Microsoft will fix this problem since they no longer make this model or I will replace it with an I pod and never purchase a Zune again. I feel sorry for the people that I showed my Zune to when I first pruchased it.  My son and I both have the 30 g model.

In case it helps anyone... both my wife's and my 30gbs are dead. Mine was updated to 3.0, my wife's was one of the very first Zunes and never updated (1.0 I assume)- so this is affecting all versions of the 30GB firmware it seems.

yep happened to me last night at around 12:15pm and This is making me frustrated not mad at Microsoft. I feel bad about how a lot of the zuners with fried zune brownies are treating the support team. you think they wanted this to happen? how ever they settle this, this is not a good thing for them. this puts there rep down the drain. yes the y2k9 bug will go down in zune history but don't rub it in there faces

be nice to your children, There the ones that chose your rest home:)
