Did we ever figure out how to fix the issue where the files were fixed on the software, but it is still jumbled on the Zune device?

I erased my Zune and resynced and it worked fine.  Took a while to re-sync though.

Some have suggested wiping the Zune and letting it re-sync, but if you only have a few issues, just change over to the Zune (in the player).

Goto Music, find the songs, and remove them from the device. When you sync again they should be fixed, if they don't sync again, select them in the library screen, (hold shift to select them all) right click and click sync to device.

Thank you again! I'm deleting them now... if anything else goes wrong, I know where to look :)

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

The Zune software retagged quite a bit of my library as well.

Very disappointing...I love my Zune, but it's really messed up now. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Sgt. Pepper's has about 30 songs from different artists on it now.

And I have double & triple checked...it re-wrote the tags. :(

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

The enormous frustration now though is that I can only edit one audio file at a time. I have an ebook for example, which is one of many, on my Zune comprised of 23 CDs which equates to 187 audio files. In the previous version of the Zune software I could Shift-select all the files and select edit and then edit the Album Artist or Artist or any other metadata field and update all 187 files at once. Now I can only do it file by file. In addition, Windows Explorer doesn't let me edit multiple files at the same time either and on top of that Explorer doesn't allow me to edit any field except the name of the file unless I highlight the file and select properties and then make the change.

No longer being able to edit the metadata of multiple files at the same time is going to be a serious downer on what otherwise is a nice step forward in terms of the Zune experience. If I can't manage my collection of audio a video files more easily I'm definitely not going to suggest to my extended family that the Zune is the way to go. The device interface, which I love the improvements, is only part of the experience...being able to manage my collection easily is 50% or more of the experience...especially since the mess on my laptop is now synced to my Zune...which was in presitine condition prior to my upgrade.

Please help

Phil- I went out on the internet and found Mp3tag. It's free, and allows for just the sort of thing you ask for.
I too found that I could no longer mass-edit files, but Mp3tag will let you, and will even check your metadata against Amazon/Freedb, etc...

If you put in C:\Users\StreetChariot\Music\ it will search all subfolders under music and show you all of your songs.

Let me know if this helps.

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.
I deleted the corrupted files from my library and tried to burn them back on and it still is messed up. It tells me that the John Mayer CD is Rocco Deluca and Rocco Deluca is John Mayer. My Massive Attack CD won't burn all 14 tracks. It skipped 11, 13 and 14 for no apparent reason. I've tried reinserting it and still nothing.  I tried the fix that was suggested, but I can't find the location as described. I love the update, but we used to be able to search for the album and choose what we were looking for. Now we can't and I don't understand why.

Hug it out

When I try to re-sync, after whiping my Zune, it syncs nothing. Goes from 0% to 100% in a second, and says that it is up to date.

Nevermind, I handled it. I just had to manually syn all of my music, then sync my pictures, videos next, etc.

Worked a treat.
After I erased my zune and the music that came on it.
*slightly* pissed, but hey, it was free!
At any rate, this is not something that MS needed to have happen on launch day, but at least it's an easy fix.
Get the word out!

You can change the metadata for the file and Zune using the list view, right clicking and choosing edit. Right clicking on the column header will allow you to view Album Artist, Track Artist, Album Title, and track Title...so that you can edit them as well.

Um not true... yes u can add columns and view other details etc. but you can no longer edit any of the following:

  • Contributing Artist
  • Composer
  • Song Number
  • Release Year
  • Conductor
  • Etc

You basically dumbed down my music management from the previous software and any other competitor like itunes etc. now I need to use additional software to do the same thing I used to be able to do .. only just yesterday.
