Best of Luck for everyone else. Advice, since I really have no idea how my step dad did it, try removing external usb storage devices. I had an unregistered usb to sata plugged in and it kept giving me the error that it couldn't install. Otherwise, I have no idea what else could be the problem. But as of now my problem is fixed

I'm getting the missing package '%!s!' error.
I've tried the setup package and the old installer.

I followed the link and DL'd the package, but I keep getting the same message.

It was Windows Firewall for me too. Unreal that I have to have a service that I don't need running to install software, if we have to do this we might as well be able to sync with WMP11.

Well I really hope that there's another solution other than turning on Windows Firewall, because I have never been able to turn on Windows Firewall on my computer. Whenever I try to access it, I get the message "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings". So that doesn't really help me very much.

The only problem I'm having is locating 'zune.msi'.  I'd appreciate some assistance on that subject.

I don't know the Error code, I would try re-installing the software, but that'll take me a long time to post the code.  'zune.msi', that's my only problem, it can't connect to that network.  I think it has something to do with the wireless internet network.  If so, I don't have that.

I have also tried re-installing the software after deleting it, I saw a shimmer of hope, but there was still no go.

Also, do I have to install the new marketplace software in order for my device to receive the new firmware?  Been trying to update it through the old one and it says I'm up to date, probably with that marketplace software, right?

Thanks.

**EDIT**

Just want to thank the user who mentioned UnZoone.  Totally worked like magic for me.  If anyone else is still having trouble, totally recommend it.

Thanks!  :D

Setup must stop because the required package 'Zune' failed to install.

The older version of Zune cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group

i launch it. and that's right you guessed it,

Microsoft Zune has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

congradulations microsoft you really F***ed up this time.

this same error pops up each time i try to open the "installed" software.

OMG i have uninstalled and re-installed the software several times and each time the "encountered problem" box opens and says that the zune software needs to close.
