re: Music Collection Issues

I did the fix and it helped the stuff in my library but when I went to sync it did not recognize my zune. once i told it to sync it just made a bigger mess out of the library.

Microsoft needs to stop this update for all the people who have not already done it. this is absurd

re: Music Collection Issues

When you change the names of the files that fixes the database. I also had the problem with the album art being messed up.

Fix:

Inside of every folder where the songs are stored there is a file called ZuneAlbumArt.jpg. This is where the mistake lies. The new Zune software does not need this file for the album art. use the native Windows search for the file and delete all the found files. It is a hidden file so you will need to make sure that it is searching within hidden files and folders.

Enjoy

re: Music Collection Issues

This fix resolved my problem with Music. There were 180 albums stored on my PC and approximately half of the album covers were miss-matched with the name of the album. The Vista fix took care of this.

I cant seem to find a way to customize the information displayed in the colums.. 2 items in particular "file size" and "source"? Have they been dropped?

re: Music Collection Issues

Using the rename database thing and letting things bake for a while fixed most of my meta data problems on individual files. Since those db files weren't being recreated though, I can't trigger another scan. I found ZuneStore.sdf, which was new and recently updated, so I moved that out and that triggered another scan. So far I've still got some miss tagged mp3's, mostly with the wrong album. The wrong album info usually comes from an album close by in the library, but not always. Some examples:

Beck\Mutations mp3's have Belly\Star album title

Beck\Odelay mp3's have Bill Wharton\South of the Blues album title

Alpha\Pepper- Remixes & Rarities [EP] mp3's have Anna Nalick\Wreck of the Day alumn title

10,000 Maniacs\Love Among the Ruins mp3's have Urge Overkill\Saturation album title

Hope this helps.

Judah - I had several tracks that appeared to terminate quickly too. Turns out that those files were somehow corrupted (particularly ones I'd ripped some time ago). Use Windows Media ASF Viewer to see if yours are too. Alternatively just delete the affected track/album and re-rip.

HTH.

re: Music Collection Issues

Im having the same problem; quite a few albums are getting put into the wrong artist/album and it is highly frustrating. I tried renaming the application data and i could see the songs being loaded within the program. But this did not solve the issue. The ironic thing is that my Zune device had everything organized completely and so this issue is solely with the Zune Software.

My issues are first that alot of my music has been placed into wrong categories of both album and artist.

Next, with the new software, the only way i can edit is by left-clicking and individually editing artist and album etc. and i even seem to be having some trouble with that when editing the album artist. This method is ridiculously time consuming, and inefficient. Why am I not allowed to edit more than one file at a time? With previous zune software, a box popped up for editing all of the files information. That is for some bad reason gone. We need that back to fix wronged information because obviously the glitch might not be fixed for a while. Any new help would be appreciated.

Also, the new zune software copied about 2-3 GB of music already on my zune again...? I had about 3 GB free and now its filled up with obviously recopied music. I have no free space now. NOT COOL!

The new software is beautiful and im happy, but this has ruined alot of the excitement.

I just talked with my girlfriend and she reported the same issue. This is NOT GOOD!

re: Music Collection Issues
I've been pulling mixed up artist / abums folders out of my watched list, letting zune 2.0 notice the change, then if needed fixing the album data and then dragging the albums/artists folders back into my collection one at a time. That seems to give 2.0 a kick in the pants and things get categorized right.

I updated from 1 to 2 and tried the steps you outline deleting the files you specified. The problem is that the software wrote the bad metadata to the files and now even though I rebuilt the database, It was rebuilt with the bad data. I've got some files duplicated and some deleted. All of these files were copied using the original zune software and the metadata was correct at that time.

Why o why did they get rid of the manual album search feature, it was so very helpful.  And why now can we not just drag a song into the correct album and let it fix it without me having to manually type in the name of it.  That was so nice and easy.

Yeah, the new software just screwed up about a years worth of work. My library perfect, now I have Master P songs on the Beatle "White Album"!

Thanks alot, also it's hard as hell fix the problem. What happened to "edit track info", "update album info" and "open file location", those were the best features, and they're what helped me organize my songs correctly. Now I'm just screwed.

re: Music Collection Issues

Did you install over an older version of Zune? If so did you try to delete the db and let Zune reload the DB from scratch. If your track information was actually saved in the files the software should not overwrite existing metadata. It may put it in the DB, but it will not overwrite metadata in the files unless you specifically set the flag to allow it.
