re: Those of you with STILL frozen Zune.
Hm, I;m not having the same luck as everyone else.

Last night my friend and I did the hard reset(disconnecting battery) and it worked for a few hours before freezing again.

Then today after 24 hours, still didnt work.

I tried the erease and it hung up on the "clearing contents".

I then did 2 hard resets with the same results. Upon pressing buttons, no response. Upon plugging it, it just shows the Zune screen(not loading) and flashes the screen off and on every second.

Any advice?

So, tried non-stop the "magic button" fix, froze every single time on the erasing content screen. ALL DAY, never worked. My suggestion if you zune is as stubborn as mine, go to You Tube, look up how to take apart the zune, it's simple, two screws and gentle maneuvering and disconnect the battery, BE CAREFUL OF THE BROWN PIECE HOLDING THE BATTERY CONNECTION, it pops off and can get lost easily. Take off the battery for a couple of seconds then reconnect. Definately simpler and faster than the MS magic button fix that freezes and has to be timed exactly as it boots up.

Just thought I would share.

How long did you let the hard reset run? The first time I did it, I think I only let it run about 45 minutes, then I disconnected it from my PC thinking it was frozen and wanted to drain the battery to give it another shot. Once it was dead I charged it up, and did the hard reset again. This time I left it plugged in, so it would not lose power. Sure enough I was watching some TV and looked over at my monitor and saw that the Zune software was running. Reloaded the firmware and now I'm syncing back up. The second hard reset took about 4 hours or so. Be patient, I thought it was bricked but it's looking good now.

re: Re: re: Re: Those of you with STILL frozen Zune.

I have tried being patient and being impatient and nothing has worked for me. By that I have waited for it to die, after 3pm PST on 1/1/09 and it went to the dreaded screen.

I tried the hard reboot and it goes back to the dreade screen.

I tried letting it drain, press the 3 keys while tapping my foot and singing out of key, and it still went to the dreaded screen.

I will try again tomorrow when I am sure the battery is drained again.

Any recommendations on which approach I should try first?

This is really too bad for Microsoft and too bad for me.

Thanks

You're going to want the battery charged so you can see if it works right after.  You want to make sure it worked before you put it all back together.  My battery was unplugged for about 15 minutes while I tried to put the tiny tension bracket back together and attached to the motherboard.  Good luck!  Mine was a refurb, so I didn't mind taking the chance.  Although, I was still teed off a bit on the whole ordeal.

re: Those of you with STILL frozen Zune.

I am convinced that I need to go the hard boot route but I am not able to make it work.

I have my Zune cover off

It has a charge

I diconnect the battery and then reconnect the battery

It comes on, reboots and then goes blank

I then plug the Zune in to the computer

It comes on and goes to the screen of death and stops

Can someone please tell me sdtep by step what I should do to perform the hard rest properly?

Thanks

re: Those of you with STILL frozen Zune.
Well I did the hard restart ( disconnecting the battery). followed it by holding back+left+ok. Deleted the firmware, reinstalled and I'm going for who knows how long this time but its running flawlessly atm. I will say later whether or not it goes stupid again. Microsoft owes us all something. No joke. Whether it be a free upgrade to a 120, or a free zune pass. Anything to say their sorry.
