re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
In a weird way, that's kind of reassuring.  I'm having the same issue, so this suggests to me that there's nothing wrong with my software or my Zune hardware.  It's a problem on Zune's end.  One they're still working on... I hope?  Any news?

Can someone define the list of valid characters (other than a-z and 0-9). Are ( ) [ ] @ '  valid?

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

The only time my play count goes up is if I play songs in the Zune software. I have played my Zune device a good portion of every day since the update to 3.0 and every time I sync the device the play count does not change.

Play count for software = working

Play count for device = broken

Unfortunately not working for me either.  I am having the same problem as many.  My plays show up on the software but plays from the Zune itself do not show up on my software under my name nor on my card.  However the plays do show up on "songs" page under play counts.  Very strange.

If you have definitely linked your Zune Tag to your device (per the instructions on the first page of this thread), and your device plays still aren't counting, then I don't know what's going on. I've reported it to the device team and they are looking into it.

No, my device plays dont count. Played two albums last night on the device and synced it. I could see the songs "update" during the sync process, but then they dont show up, either here, or on my software.

My software shows song plays here, and it has the same metadata, so I can't figure out what's going on.

I'm also synced in as myself and not a guest. (I have been going back and forth between guest and host with the previous (2.5) version.)

KilasandraSings - you're sure that you have your device linked to your tag?

Brackets are valid; I'm not sure about "@" - I'll find out specifically what characters could cause a problem.

Re: re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Thanks for looking into this. Note that the apostrophe ' was also listed in my query, as these are all characters that appear in my song titles. I allready made sure I removed all french accents from any artist, album artist, composer, song title or album name. I wonder how the software deals with "proper" spelling of Queensryche and Motley Crue, which both use the umlat. I made sure I removed them in my own lists.

Thanks for reminding me about the characters used in Motley Crue and Queensryche. I also found Blue Oyster Cult with a weird character.

Anyways after changing those tags and deleting them off my zune, plus I did the relink, and checking back after an hour or so it seems to have finally updated. I tried relinking last night with no success. I think it was those few band names.

Update:

Played one more song off the zune. And it updated almost instantly. It had to be those band names. Unless the issue was fixed on their end.

I just noticed that all the plays from my device are showing up as unknown album. Wierd

re: Re: re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Well, I logged in this morning to get my new podcasts and see if anything was new and guess what?  My zune card has completely updated!!!!

I tested it out a few times and like the person above, my plays from the Zune update almost immeditely.  The steps didn't work at first but it looks like they have.

Thanks!

I followed the steps listed in the first post but my playcount still doesn't update the content played on my Zune hardware. Only Zune software plays are counted. I also tried starting a new database file with the same result - no change.

I just spent a few hours going through every song.  Renamed everything with odd characters.  Profile just updated with ~1500 songs.  Everything looks accurate.  Songs still show correct characters on the profile.

Thanks for the reminder.
