That said, if it is possible to implement a software EQ, that's still a very, very, very optimistic view on the situation.

With that said AGAIN, the point of this petition isn't pointless, just slightly difficult to be in accordance to. We're the consumers, and it's up to Microsoft to satisfy our wants. Can we double sign this?

Haha, how naïve can you be?  Those of us who willingly accepted Microsoft's offer for an offer (the advertisement, product info, hype, etc.), and went out and purchased the product as-is for a known amount of money, have absolutely no right to demand a feature not advertised.

Furthermore, devs from the Zune product team have already stated that the EQ hardware chip was removed purposefully (whether we the consumers like it or not) and that without the chip, an EQ would not be possible on this generation of the Zune.

From a business perspective, what Microsoft might consider is making sure this (obviously) controversial feature is included in future iterations of the product.  It may not be (economically) worth it for them to create a software EQ for this generation... especially when there are several more pressing issues surrounding this version that can and should be fixed.

With all that said again x2 :-) .... I would like to have an EQ available, but it's not there, I knew it was not there, I bought it knowing that, and I am not going to complain, beg, and whine for it post-purchase.

If it was really offer for an offer, then people would've had to pay for the new software. Some people doesn't know that Microsoft took the EQ out. They sure didn't highlight the feature that they took out equalizer and put stars around it. Also, some people would prefer shorter battery life than having no EQ, so that Microsoft can put out more options and pull in a wider audience. And it might not be very profitable for Microsoft to put an EQ software, but that's what this petition is for!!!

Ok, you do realize that your 'paperweight 30' HAS the EQ, right?  Or are you missing the ability to customize it?

You have to go to SETTINGS-MUSIC on the device to set it up.  It is there.

Its my music/podcast/audio and I want to listen to it the way I think it sounds best.
Sometimes that will differ from the bass-ape who is unaware that there are wonderful frequencies above 30Hz.
Had I known the EQ was removed I doubt I would have bought the Zune 80.
As my Zune 30 had upgraded firmware, EQ,  working wireless sync, no spin up 'squeal' and a FM tuner that would pick up more than 2 stations the Zune 80 has been a real downgrade for me. YMMV

re: PETITION FOR ZUNE EQUALIZER

I think its assanine that MS would not allow their users to have any equalization.  We all have different ears, different headsets, and different ideas of what sounds good.  I for one would like my 30GB Zune to have a user defineable EQ.  Its really silly that it doesn't as its just software in this unit.  Can you say lazy programmers.  I doubt their stupid.  Just for the record, I wouldn't buy a unit that had no EQ and I almost didn't buy the 30GB last year because it wasn't user defineable.

So, Microsoft, in your infinite wisdom...... do what you think is right.  We, as users, will vote with our wallets.

re: PETITION FOR ZUNE EQUALIZER

Wow, I never knew the new 4 / 8 / 80 gig do not have equalizers. That's a rip. Maybe w/ the 4 or 8 flash drive, but the 80?!

I'm online with a petition to get that in there. Mind you, I'm kinda happy to stay w/ my ancient brown 30. Big Smile [:D]

re: PETITION FOR ZUNE EQUALIZER

QUICK QUESTION:

ALL MY MUSIC ON MY ZUNE EXPIRED. IS THIS POSSIBLE, OR DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG WHEN I DOWNLOADED IT? HOW CAN I RESTORE IT ONCE IT'S EXPIRED? ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

re: PETITION FOR ZUNE EQUALIZER
the eq can be done via software for the new hardware i think.  I have a Zune 4 and honestly it sounds great the eq (because it's hardware based) was sacraficed for wi-fi sync in the Zune 4, 8, and 80.
