The reformat doesn't do anything to your collection on your PC. It only reformates the Zune device itself - and then you would need to resync to put all your stuff back on the Zune.

Okay, I did both a "clear content" and an "initialize disk", to no avail.  Zune in question is about four months old, worked perfectly until two days ago, but now I have no sound on mp3s or videos, however, I do have sound on my FM radio portion, so I know it's not my headphones or the headphone jack.  It's a 4G, v2, and I am running the v3 firmware.

Thanks!

NEED HELP!!! I am having so many problems now that I did the wireless sync thing! Now my zune (8) has the pause icon up and when I press play I can't open or play songs or videos. Even when I unplug my zune, it is still showing that it is charging. I just purchased the free zune pass and I downloaded songs but the problem occurred when I entered my wireless key into the zune so I can connect wirelessly (I guess, from my zune). I have the new downloaded songs on my computer but not on my zune and nothing is connecting or syncing. I need help. Please leave me a message at corin13@hotmail.com or corinthia.jones@yahoo.com because this don't make any sense. Anyone please help me. I just hooked up my zune and I do not wish to erase all that I just created!!!! Thank you.

First, try rebooting it-  hold back and up for a few seconds until it begins to shut down.  It will restart itself.
Then try sync'ing, but with the zune cable.  Let us know how it goes!

I tried the first two commands and nothing changed.

My problem:
-My Zune doesn't respond during sync.
-Songs only play for about 30 seconds before there is silence.
-After trying to fast forward the song and such, an error message comes up saying the song is missing or cannot be played.
-The zune sometimes freezes when selecting a song or option.
-This started when suddenly the Zune had to erase all content.

I am afraid that if do the initialize disk step, it won't respond when I connect it to a PC so the new firmware can be installed.

PLEASE HELP!!!
Its been like this for about 3 months.

did u actually try to reformat? It is up to you, whether you would have a zune that will not work and have missing songs (which yes, may take time to get back eventually but atleast your zune might have another cahnce) or to to just let ur zune be and keep dealing with it's stubborness. lol what I would do, if I were you, and perhaps matt can clear this up further, is just reformat it. It sounds like it's going in that direction when the music will not play or if zune cannot find that file, due to formatting the songs.. you might just have to reformat it. I know that sounds kinda sucky... but try and keep a mental note of what songs mean the most to u and once reformatted, just try and replace those if you can. But once again, that is what I would do. You don't have to lol. I paid over $200 for my zune and i'd be darned if it didn't do what I want it to!!!

I love Michael Jackson's music. So what??? :P

When I connect my zune to snyc it, the software states, "zune is using your Zune. To see snyc status, close that program." I rebooted my player to no avial. It doesn't seem to be the player, when I plug in the USB the screen reads connected. I would be very grateful if you could shed some light, I haven't even had it for a week.

Mine did this to me recently.. all I really did was reboot the zune and the program. if that does not work, restart the computer and make sure that your zune is properly connected.
