re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

Odd. I had this problem and tried to solve it another way. I noticed that the album art that was screwed up was located in folders that still contained the correct album art. However, there were dupes (and corrupted dupes) of the album art named something like "zunealbum..."

I used search to get all those files in a single window, and tried to delete them, but the os (XP in my case) would not, though they were flagged not read only... I figured something in the background may have been accessing them, so I turned off zune sharing with Xbox. When I returned to those folders to try and delete those files -- this is strange -- THEY WERE ALREADY GONE. Album art after that was fine.

Haven't reinstituted sharing to see if that screws it up again. Will reply to this if it does.

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

You guys (MS Zune team) are killing me here.  This fix did not work for me on Vista.  I now suspect that the reason it didn't work is becuase while my database was all messed up, the "automaticly update album art and media information" option hosed all my tagging.  I have tried the fix twice and my stuff is still all messed up - even though it looks correct when browsing the folders in Windows.

I don't know why people are thanking the zune team for the fix... even if it did work for you, it's a techy PITA fix - not something an average music lover should have to do.  I'm biting my tongue here but let's just say it KILLS me that MS has, once again, given people a reason to think ill of updates/upgrades.  You guys make it SO hard to be a supporter of Microsoft - the culture that propogates this "we'll fix it with support" attitude needs to be changed in Redmond.

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

Very, Very, Very Frustrated.

Meta data on disk was in fact screwed up in the process.

It needs to be made very clear that turning that auto update of album info off is critical.

I happen to have just ripped about 20 cd's to my collection and had not backed up since I did that.  So now I've got to try and either selectively recover the music from backup or walk thru the meta data, song by song. trying to fix it.

There should be a huge warning that suggests all media be backed up before installing this software.  This is going to take me hours to make right

I have a guide (For Vista) with screen shots at http://www.sharingisgood.com/tutorials.htm
That might help you. Just remember that you need to rename the files, DO NOT delete them.

Did we ever figure out how to fix the issue where the files were fixed on the software, but it is still jumbled on the Zune device?

I agree.  One would  hope they would hope they have modifed the setup routine to do these deletes automatically.  Its unbelieveable that this problem got past the beta.

If all of your data looks good in WMP and Explorer, and you've renamed both of the files (SDF, etc..) to no avail, try re-installing the software.

The issue is caused by a conversion error with the database from 1.X to 2.0 the SDF file is the access point for the database, and should be the answer for all ills.

Smooth525, have you checked them in WMP or Explorer to see if they still look correct?
BungalowGuy, try removing the files from the AppData\..... folder and moving them else where. Make sure the Zune software is closed first. Once the files are moved, re-open ZMP and let it sit and do its thing. You should be in good shape then. (I have only found one album issue between Fall Out Boy and Judas Priest).

If all else fails, call Zune Support. That's what they are here for.
