demanding usually works when dealing with people...
I hate to say it, but it may be time to have a conversation with an outside party.
I'm really upset that you're having such a hard time; while maybe the minority, these are the experiences that leave a terrible taste in people's mouths.

The repair facility reserves the right to not replace your zune and send you back the original if they are not satisfied with it's inspection. Basically if they find anything they think might the be fault of the user they can just say tough luck and send you your device back. Again the repair facility does not actually "repair" the device they simply replace the device with a brand new device.
Hold your breath someone is about to tell the greatest lie EVER!

This thread prompted me to register my Zune, which I had not done before, in case of problems down the road.
So I just registered online today, and they gave me a warranty expiration date of 4/13/2008...what's up with that? I got it for Christmas, and I was never even asked for the purchase date, only the serial number!
I've dropped my replacement Zune 30 a couple times and it's fine.
lol, I drove away with my 30 on the roof of my car
but it's still good

This is exactly how it worked for me, and it's also where all my problems began - with registering my device and Zune having the incorrect purchase date for my player (of course, in my case, it was 8 months after the purchase date rather than 4 weeks). As you can tell from the saga, the warranty date is very difficult to correct, and neither Microsoft nor Jabil (the Zune manufacturer) seem to care much about making it any easier.
I figure there are a couple or three ways this can happen.
1. Someone registers and accidentally enters the wrong serial number. This would seem easy to do, however, I don't know if the "serial" numbers on Zunes are really sequential (or serial); many devices these days have serial numbers that are not and are actually encoded numbers (as are credit card numbers, which makes it difficult to guess them). OR
2. Mom or dad buy a unit, takes it home and registers it (from the serial number on the box), then when they present it to Junior for Christmas or birthday or whatever, Junior screams that he doesn't want it, that he wanted an IPod, and then takes the Zune back. However, Best Buy (or whatever retailer) doesn't know, or care, that it's already been registered and simply puts it back on the shelf to sell again. OR
3. Jabil / Zune / Microsoft have a really lousy tracking system.
I might suggest you try to get your date resolved now rather than later.
Good luck. If I find out anything that could help you, I'll post it here and/or PM you directly.
man I feel for ya, I can't believe that this is still going on and nothing has changed. Keep fighting,

Stoic, I agree that the 30's are durable. I have a belkin hard case that is attached to my dashboard. If I hit a big bump the zune comes off the zune and it lands on the floor of my car. this has happened about 15 times and it never skips a beat when it falls. I have now corrected the situation as I don't want to take that chance, but still durable.
