re: How to Reboot, Reformat, and Restore your Zune device
hey i posted this twice already hopefully this is the right place

My zune 120gb is stuck on screen 3 ( please wait). I have been trying to submit an online repair request but it always leads to error. I tried it several times on 3 different web browsers so the problem is with this site. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips from this website and nothing works, my zune is still under warranty. I suspect the problem is change of region since i moved to japan on military orders. when i got here thats when it stopped working which is really lame i hope my 360 doesn't follow suit. since I am not able to submit an online repair request im putting this message out here to see if someone can help me. thank you for your time.

I find that many sync problems can be fixed by simply rebooting the device, reformatting it, or reinitializing it. Here is a list of the device commands for both V1 and V2 devices. Try these actions first if you are having a problem with syncing to your Zune device.

Reboot: Press and hold the Back button (<-) + Up on the directional pad

Format Device from the Zune software - Go to Settings > Device > Sync Options > Then click the "erase all content" button.

Sleep Mode: Back + Down

To perform the following, reboot your device, and then when the screen goes black, hold the corresponding buttons until the process begins.  (“OK” refers to pressing the center of the D-Pad/Z-Pad.)

Clear Content (Format from Device) – Clears all media content from the device, but leaves the firmware intact.
V1 Devices (Zune 30): Press and hold Back + Right + OK
                V2 Devices (Zune 4/8 and 80): Press and hold Back + Play/Pause

Initialize Disk – Removes the content and the firmware.  Device will be inoperable until connected to a PC so new firmware can be installed.
V1 Devices (Zune 30): Press and hold Back + Left + OK
                V2 Devices (Zune 4/8 and 80): Press and hold Back + OK + Play/Pause

re: How to Reboot, Reformat, and Restore your Zune device
This helped me so much. I love my device but it wasn't being picked up by my pc anymore and I was have lots of problems with it.  After clearing the content, reformating and reinstalling it is now back to perfect performance. I have the 80gb Zune and plan on purchasing another one soon for my husband.  THANKS SOOOO MUCH THIS WAS EASY TO USE INSTRUCTIONS.

re: How to Reboot, Reformat, and Restore your Zune device
i erased all the content on my Zune because songs that i had on my collection for some reason would not play in my Zune the error was that either the files are missing or cannot be played so hopefully erasing then syncing the content again will help

re: How to Reboot, Reformat, and Restore your Zune device
I have had the same problem with the Online repair from here in the States, it seems there was a problem with my address. I have learned that their
page only accepts certain  address elements, rejects others, and often will not tell you what the problem is.
Eventually, I called the toll free number, and a real live person helped me, even though the recording said they would only help with specific problems, and my Zune 120 had an entirely different set of issues.
As far as the problem with your Zune, I don't know, I have the same problem with my Zune 80, (out of warranty) and don't know the a fix for it (hence the Zune 120).
For what it's worth, I've let the battery drain, and recharge a few times. One time it did get to Screen 5 (Call customer service), but I blew that it and pushed a button or two.
Give the fine folks at Zune Support a call (1-877-438-9863, you probably have to dial 01 or 011 before the 877.) It's toll free from the US, I dunno about from Japan, though.

And, BTW, thank you for your service. Be as safe as possible.

Poppa1956. yeah.
