re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
Then to that I would say format the Zune and use the install CD that came with your Zune which has the old software and reinstall it to your computer. If you don't use the marketplace you should be OK.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
hey so i just got off the phone with zune support.   they said they've been getting calls about this and theyre working on fixing it.
they said to give it a week.

update-
so i called back and the woman said this was not the case.
she told me to use guest setting as a workaround and that it would not limit any other usablity (which turned out to be untrue as i can not set up wireless sync as a guest.)

should we really need a workaround?

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
I made the mistake of "updating" (and I use that term loosely) two days ago and I regret it quite a bit. It's quite easy to downgrade to the 1.4 but downgrading the firmware on the Zune to allow you to work with it is another story. Quite honeslty I will probably put up my Zune until they fix their problems, I tend to add new music two to three times a week and not being able to drag and drop plus having to upload my entire flippin library... serious problems, this is crazy.

I get your point on the sync behavior, but for now, we've optimized the behavior for the audience that wants to keep the library and the content on the device actually in sync, as opposed to treating the device as a completely independent storage medium.

Andy

So if i have a 30 gig laptop and an 80 gig zune then your asking me to waste 50 gigs, to just leave it blank?
using the software properly there seems to be no other way.
i understand "optomizing" the software for your target audience, but you still need to leave the option for the much bigger audience that uses the device differently.  there's absolutly no reason why you should not at least offer this option in the new software as you did with the old one.
The fact that you're trying to give all these complicated, unnecessary solutions proves that you admit there's a problem. So just fix the problem and give us back manual sync.
Andy, give me one good reason why this doesn't make sense and I will shut up about the problem.
But if you can't then please do something about fixing it for us.
Much obliged,
daniel

Are you serious?  Wait, is there really no way to manually sync songs in the new 2.0 software?  My 80GB is sitting under the tree, so I've been reading up on the Zune and getting ready to crack it open on Christmas...but this is discouraging.  If only I could just copy songs to the Zune as if it was just another hard drive.

Someone should take a look at this and see if it fixes your problem. Specifically the posts on the 2nd page where someone said that by running the new Zune Media Collection Resest tool they are now able to sync manually - look at replies #22 to #26.

Grr, I don't like having a lot of music/videos stuck on my PC after I've transferred them...I want em off my computer after I sync. I hope an update comes quick, so I can use the space on my PC for other stuff.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
I have successfully unintentionally deleted two movies that took me roughly three and a half hours total to encode.  I added them to my Zune 30, and played them to check everything out and to see if audio was in sync.... all was well.  I then proceeded to delete the files to preserve memory on my laptop, as the movies took up roughly 700mb each.  I then went to sync some podcasts, and lo and behold, my movies were deleted from my Zune.  It is really a disservice to the loyal Zune userbase when the software deems itself worthy of deleting items off your Zune when you have specided TO LET ME SYNC MY OWN FILES.  Now, I love my Zune, but this is one giant frustration that needs to be resolved.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
New Zune owner and this software is nuts!!!!  I am a technical professional and for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is trying to do.  This is the most unintuiative software I have ever seen!!

My wife and I own each have a 30GB Zune that will have completely different movies, music, etc....  Is there anyway to keep separate "libraries"??

Please fix this, as this is the absolute worst media software that I have ever dealt with.  No control what so ever!!!

I am just about ready to return the Zunes and post everywhere I can about how the crazy software absolutely RUINS a great and affordable player!!!!

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
Yeah I noticed  this a few days ago and it's really annoying. So far I've converted 146 movies, TV shows and random videos to Zune format w/ 3rd party software (approx 40GB) . I own a Zune30 that has approx. 12GB of music on it that's staying where it is. So obviously, I'm not gonna put all the videos on  my Zune. After I sync videos to the device, I archive those files on an ext HDD. So my folder I have the software monitoring rarely contains the same files as the device, so I've been getting thing deleted off my Zune that I don't want to be, of course.

As a work around, I mounted the ext drive and gave it a drive letter, so now I have to wade through 146 files that are organized for crap. I edit my video metadata so episodes of the same TV shows fall into the TV Shows header on the Zune with a separate folder/thumbnail for the different shows. The organization of videos on the Zune is perfect, the organization of the videos in the Zune software is non-existent.  I could deal with the stupid policy of having to have all my videos in my collection, if I had the abilty to organized them in some form or fashion without have 146 thumbnails on one screen. It's really just a stupid way of doing things.

Who or what did what to who? That's right, he did.
