re: Zune 30 freezing
I feel sorry for all the sellers of the Zune, I bet they are getting crammed with people complaining about this issue and I would NOT call Microsoft about this issue because those people are going to be calling too.

And I noticed too that the computer does not even read it, thats not good because as I see it, the only fix is a firmware update but how will that help if the computer can read the zune? I tried killing the battery, only to come back to the same screen.

This is not good... not good at all.

Mine's doing it too... It froze late last night while in the charger and nothing seems to fix it.  None of the buttons work to reset it and the computer doesn't see it as plugged in with a full charge OR a dead battery.  Mine's well over a year old and I refuse to pay to have it repaired AND be without it for 4-6 weeks.  If that turns out to be Microsoft's solution then I will finally be buying that IPod Touch!

re: Zune 30 freezing
My Zune had been powered down ( batterie dead) for over 3 weeks, when I plugged it into my pc to charge, it booted to the ZUNE screen and locked. the only common fact is all are locking, this only leads me to beleive it was some sort of virius in the program and if in fact thats the case, how will microsoft correct short of us having toi send in the Zunes to have them reprogramed, connecting to PC's doesnt work because it continues to lock up, so theres no way for Microsoft to send down a patch via a web address. This Abosolutly sucks

I don't think I could come to terms with switching to an I-Pod, I would be going against everything I have said over the years. lol. And I love Zune Pass and such! But I will be VERY mad if I need to send it in because mine too is past the 1 year warranty.

re: Zune 30 freezing

Hey guys, I am totally feeling your pain here. I want to let you know that we are close to understanding the issue and just hang tight (I know it's tough, I miss my ol' 30, too).

Also, I wouldn't recommend cracking your Zune open and performing any surgery or anything. :) Just disconnect it from your computer or charger and let it sit for the time being.

Thanks for being patient everyone!

-Matt

re: Zune 30 freezing
My Zune died today. I bought my Zune 30gb from E-bay.  Its out of warranty and it is already registered to someone else.  So before I laid it to rest I figured what the hell!! I took it apart reseated the battery cable (twice 1st time it did not work).  Second time is a charm , it worked and I'm back in action.  Works fine but my battery was dead so I have to wait to see if it will sync with the program.. DO NOT DISASSEMBLE IF YOURS IS REGISTERED OR STILL UNDER WARRANTY.  IT MAY NOT WORK!  but it did for me. Do this at your own risk.  Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Thanks for the info Skip. I put my 30g Zune in this morning, it started to boot, then nothing. It makes me wonder if you should wait, leave it go dead, or keep it charged. Please advise if you know anything or find something out. Thanks!!

re: Zune 30 freezing

I unfroze mine this morning. You have to open it up and disconnect the battery, wait a minute and reconnect it. Mine is now working fine. But do this only at your own risk.

You can find how to do this on youtube.

re: Zune 30 freezing
I started my Zune up this morning due to a friend of mine telling me about the Z2K9 situation. i was reading on gizmodo and they said taking it apart, disconnecting the battery, and putting it back together would fix it so i said why not? i've taken a few things apart in my day so i did it and low and behold, it works! So for all the despirate ones out there like myself there is a temp. fix for this issue. Although i should tell you not to and just wait for Microsoft to figure something out but who knows how long that might be right?

re: Zune 30 freezing
I think that the best way to resolve this is for MS to issue a recall, give us a new or refurbish unit.

All of my friends are making fun of me because of this issue, all of them are apple snobs so they are really having a field day with me.

Sad [:(]

I wouldn't take it apart unless you are desperate and have no warranty on the device itself.
