what's the best way to go through all the music files to determine if any of them have any weird metadata??

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

One Way: (On Windows XP) Go to the folder where they're stored (ie: c://program files/Andie's Music), Open the folder, and then right click on a song - go to to the bottom, click "Properties" (button on the bottom), then go to "Summary" (tab on top).

That's your metadata - click twice on anything you want to change - it will highlight as if to copy, backspace and type in the correct information.

You can also use Windows media to edit your metadata. I'm not so good on that - I do it, but I have to click and search around a lot.

I'm kind of anal-retentive about the metadata, so I try to get it perfect right when I import the CD, before I move it into the folder that Zune uses. If you're like me, however, you now have thousands of songs on your drive - to go through ALL of them might make you want to snatch all of your hair out, and commit yourself to a mental institution.  Wink [;)]

that's a good suggestion but i don't keep the music on my hard drive...

i don't think i'm going through the hassle of reloading all the music just to see if i have weird data in the metadata...

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Didn't work for me.  I played three songs: one downloaded from the marketplace, one recently ripped, and one that's been on my zune since day one and has counted in the past.  None of them showed up.

The last time my play count updated was 9 days ago when I used the Zune software to play a couple of songs.

Edit:

I do have songs that have Japanese titles/metadata in my collection, but I'm fairly sure they're not actually on my zune at this point.

I tried it twice and it didn't work. And now I can't download songs because my software stops working and closes up.

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
I just discovered something related to this issue. I have been seeing issues with device plays counting. Well it turns out I had a couple of Shania Twain songs "stuck" while the software was attempting to convert them. When I removed the sync group of Shania Twain, it solved the problem and device plays from several days ago suddenly counted. I have had a couple of songs that I have this issue with and when I remove the sync group that the song is in, the problem goes away. Most of my collection is ripped CDs as WMAs using the Zune software as the ripper.

Do we have any further updates from the Zune Team?  The website still says stale data, would that be the case?

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?
What makes a play count? For example, when I play a song, I listen to most of it but some songs drag on and I chose to move onto the next song. Will the previous song be considered as a play count. Do I have to listen to the entire song for it to be a play count?

sames results as most other people who have replied.

songs played from zune software is fine. songs played from the zune device do not update the most recent played or count.
