Yeah, it happens to me on my 30 GB.  It's really frustrating, especially when I'm playing changing music at a party.  It happened to me so many times last Friday....

short version: problem occured to me today.

long version: i first noticed when i would play AFI's "the art of drowning" the last 5 sec of track one would freeze, and i'd have to restart my zune cuz it'd be unresponsive. the software plays it just fine, the device doesn't.

then today, i hit the back twice, while listening to a song, then found an album then song, and pressed the center button. Chaos. for 5-7 hours my zune was unresponsive. i'd check in between breaks at work, no signs of life. then it claimed it was out of batteries when i plugged it into my computer. depressing, really. i love my zune, but today, i wanted to chuck it out the window going 65 on the expressway.

Man, with the large amount of problems the Zune is having with FW3.0, I hope the main firmware being pushed to Zunes was corrupt or something on MS' servers.  I don't see how firmware this flaky could possibly make it out of QA...

DAMMIT  BOYY!!!! WHAT UP WITH THIS, THEY CALL IT A UPGRADE OR WHATEVER AND THERE R MORE PROBLEMS EVERYTIME. ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE QUICK LIST OPTION, NOW ITS BEEN REPLACED WITH THIS NOW PLAYING SHYTE, WHEN YOU CLEAR IT , AND INSTEAD OF THE MUSIC YOU ADD TO IT ALL OF YOUR SONGS ARE THERE....DAMMIT BOYYY!!!!.......IS SOMEBODY IN THE UPGRADE DEPT. SMOKING THAT SHYTE?................DAMMIT BOYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

This would be interesting to see.  It very well could be a hard drive spin-up/caching issue.  However, keep in mind that this method people are trying is only a method to reproduce it, but it does happen at other times too.  It mostly happens for me when I pick Shuffle All.

For those experiencing the freezing glitch, try a restore.. type in 927001 in the search bar. see if that helps and let me know. Thanks!

Hello all,

I have experienced this issue several times.  In fact, I was just going to post this issue, but I found this thread.  Zune device software turned out to be a "micro-Windows" after 3.0 update, freezing and slow response, etc.  I restarted several times.  It did not help at all.  Still freezing. 

Additionally, the time slider does not work for a song.  It just freezes at 0:00 at one side and (-) whatever the length of the song at the right side even though the song is playing.  Could be related to the previous.

That's not true at all.

I myself reported back and said that it seems to have cured that particular glitch.

I've only seen one issue crop up a couple times since doing so and it was doing it every few minutes before I did the total device recovery.

This issue confirmed on my Z30 ..  solution? Rebooting is pretty annoying
