re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
Before the 3.0 update my 4GB was working just fine, but now after words it has been freezing a few times a day, at least we aren't alone in this lol.

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
Is the freezing people are seeing always occur when switching songs? Or are devices just freezing while playing back(no song switching) or just sitting idle?

A lot of people have confirmed it is happening while switching songs (videos as well maybe). The rest describe freezing in general but unfortunately don't elaborate on when and how.

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.

Yes. Generally happens when changing songs while the previous tune is in its final 10 seconds of play.

The issue is well described and documented here: http://forums.zune.net/337097/ShowPost.aspx

My zune has been doing the same thing before 3.0, so it has nothing to do with the new update. I was expecting the update to fix the problem, and the incapable morons at support offer no help. I'd rather use my cheap $70 mp3 player, Microsoft is pathetic.. fix your piece of *** product.

I'm sorry but your information is clearly incorrect.  If your Zune was doing this before than it's likely you have a hardware issue and you should have called support to get this addressed.  The problem with the freezing that everyone is talking about here is due to the Zune 3.0 firmware.  This indeed is an issue that has a lot to do with the new update.

1.  From my knowledge, the Zune 80, and the Zune 120 are freezing if the user selects a different song within the last 15 seconds of the song.  I know this also happens to the Zune 30 but not as much.  I take no credit for this but changing the song before the last 15 seconds will avoid the freezing issue.

2. I noticed that if you press the left button to rewind the track within the last 5 seconds, it will skip to the previous song.  I'm pretty sure this wasn't happening before Zune 3.0 but I'm not completely sure.

3. User's have been reporting that the Zune will randomly freeze while playing a song.  I have not experienced this issue but I'm pretty sure all these issues are related to the Zune 3.0 firmware.

4. I noticed that my Zune 80's GUI has gotten very slow especially when scrolling through music.  But then again, the Zune 80 GUI has always been a tad slower that the Zune 30. Any one out there notice this with the Zune 120?

Calling the support staff morons just shows how immature you are.  Things like this happens all the time as I stated before. The Zune teams does an excellent job because they listen to us, they post in the forums, they teach us how to do different things, and not to mention Zune Insider which has a lot of great information thanks to Cesarisok. So if you are not happy, I would highly recommend finding a different player but I can guarantee you, the Social wont be there.

I had the same thing happen to me, I found that this only occured on particular songs, so I downloaded those songs again. The problem was fixed after that. Hope this helps.

Yes switching the song before the last 15 seconds would work but then you miss the last 15 seconds.  Why can't Zune come up with a patch (3.1) to fix this issue, as it isn't an isolated case and is effecting every size.

Any Zune team member have any updates on how fixing this is going?

To quote every software engineer/programmer that has ever lived: "Every time you write a new line of code, you potentially create more bugs."

In other words, bugfixes can beget bugs. Also, would you rather get one bug fixed in a week then have to update to fix the bug that previous update introduced, and then another update.... etc. Or, would you rather have a package of bugfixes in an update that have been thoroughly tested to ensure they do not conflict with eachother? There are bugs other than this one floating around, so they probably want to fix as many as possible and test them with eachother before they release anything, so it might take a lot longer than you would assume just one bug would take.

Good developers do it this way, and P.S. I'm certain they know about it. They probably wouldn't have much to say until they've actually fixed it. Be patient people. I highly doubt it will be completely ignored, which is why I wish a mod could close this at some point. (Although they might be watching to see what other issues are reported?)

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
Don't remember if I posted in this way back when but it still makes me SO mad! It didn't do this before and I can't stand this. And why is it still gong on?  (Zune 30)

Example:

Family came over. Brother, cousins, aunts so on. All said "var has the fancy Zune now. Must think she is special." I blew it off thinking I had a better MP3 player then them.

To my total embarrassment my Zune decided to lock up every 7 or so songs. I would have to wait, restart it, set it up again, switch songs as it plays, locks up, wait,  restart it......they all noticed. My Zune let me down so bad. I doubt anyone I know will ever buy a Zune now. All because of it's constant locking up. It's hard to show it off when it's acting up so much.

My 80gb started doing something similar two days ago, about 8 hours before I updated the software.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/en-us
I can turn it on and within about ten seconds it freezes then shuts down.  If I start a song, it will play for a few seconds, then the song freezes and it shuts down.  I've tried reformatting the player and reinstalling everything; however, it only does the short restart and when I try to do the next step as its restarting by pressing all three keys, it simply doesn't recognize and starts right back up, then shuts down again.  So as of now, I can't even get it to to a full system reset.  Anyone have any wisdom on this topic or know how to reformat the whole hard drive and reinstall everything without having to press the keys in the certain pattern?

I also had problems with my Zune freezing, as well as randomly resetting, as far as my knowledge goes.

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
I've seen two solutions to this, one works for some, the other for others.  I don't think either one is universal...my Zune 80 doesn't freeze so I cannot test them.
1)  Change to the default Zune background
2) "Install Games"
  1. Connect the Zune
  2. Go to Settings in the software
  3. Click Device
  4. Click Device Update on the left section
  5. Click the Install Games button
