How long do you have to hold down the buttons for the Format command? I tried doing that just now, and it won't reformat.

Not long-  a few seconds at most...

Well, it finally died. After my last post it hit the fan. I got the "Contact Support" message followed by the screen going black. It was on b/c it looked like there would have been something there normally but the screen is black and now will not turn back on. I got the box from repairs a couple days ago and will be sending it back for a replacement. 8 months is a rather short life-span, not looking too good for this. The only thing stopping me from getting an iPod is all the music I've downloaded from the marketplace via my Zune Pass.

I have a simple question that NO ONE has answered successfully yet that works across the board for the Zune 80GB device: RE-FORMATTING INCLUDING REMOVING THE FIRMWARE.  I try to sync my device and it sits at 0% forever, so I don't think it is working on the Zune software with my device. Also I am getting error codes now on several songs I am trying to update to my computer so they wull sync with my device. I am getting the "!" signal next to it and it does not download the songs. The code is C00D11CD (C00D1077). Can anyone help me with this? I tried deleting the subscription music completely and re-downloading them but I still get the same messages when trying to downloading the music to my computer on my Zune software account screen. I also noticed that the Marketplace portion of the Zune software was downloading. Why? How do I fix these problems?Sad [:(]

hey dude, all you have to do is to go to settings>device>sync options and then choose the option FORGET THIS DEVICE, because basically your zune is currently linked to your desktop(that is your device home computer) that's why, whenever you connect it, it would automatically sync all the files that you have in your zune collection and will replace the files you have in your zune device.once you have clicked on forget this device, all sync relationship bet your pc and your device will be erased. the next time you connect your zune to your pc, it would allow you to connect as a guest and choose the option to sync songs manually to your zune device. dont choose sync all my music, but choose let me choose my music. you can click forget this device even if yur device is not connected to your pc as long as it is linked you can see the option "forget this device"

Alright, well I have done everything required. However after i get to the part where it says "on your PC, open the Zune software and restore the Zune device firmware" i do that... well i get to the zune software and it tells me to install the firmware... however... when it starts it abruptly stops saying "DEVICE WAS NOT UPDATED Can't sync because there isn't enough space on your Zune. Delete some items then try again, C00D124F"

the problem i am having is, i can't delete anything, i have reformatted it after the 3.0 update.... (it went to a black screen and wouldn't show the main menu)... i was told to reset it and reformat it.  so i did so... and yeah it won't let me update the firmware because my 80 gig zune apparently doesn't have enough space to download the firmware.... i am out of ideas. I can't delete anything because the software won't even recognize that it exists

I've tried updating to 3.0, but everytime I do, I end up with "NG" on my Zune screen in huge red letters. I've tried reformatting twice, but same result. Is my Zune toast????

Hey... My 80 GB Zune is doing the exact same thing as "JTushka's" in the post above!!  Angry [:@]   I have done all of the resets, reformats, everything that I was told to do and I just keep getting the same error when going to update the firmware!  (Can't sync because there isn't enough space on your Zune.  Delete some items, then try again.  Error Code:  COOD124F)...  The Zune is now only showing up as having a capacity of 1 GB instead of 80 GB!!  PLEASE HELP!!!

I find that many sync problems can be fixed by simply rebooting the device, reformatting it, or reinitializing it. Here is a list of the device commands for both V1 and V2 devices. Try these actions first if you are having a problem with syncing to your Zune device.

Reboot: Press and hold the Back button (<-) + Up on the directional pad

Sleep Mode: Back + Down

To perform the following, reboot your device, and then when the screen goes black, hold the corresponding buttons until the process begins.  (“OK” refers to pressing the center of the D-Pad/Z-Pad.)

Clear Content (Format) – Clears all media content from the device, but leaves the firmware intact.
V1 Devices (Zune 30): Press and hold Back + Right + OK
                V2 Devices (Zune 4/8 and 80): Press and hold Back + Play/Pause

Initialize Disk – Removes the content and the firmware.  Device will be inoperable until connected to a PC so new firmware can be installed.
V1 Devices (Zune 30): Press and hold Back + Left + OK
                V2 Devices (Zune 4/8 and 80): Press and hold Back + OK + Play/Pause

I have a 30GB and when I do this the screen turns black and does nothing else!

Regarding the "NG" problem... I reformated the device 3 or 4 times, and it finally worked okay. I was getting the NG everytime before that. I just kept trying until it finally worked. Now I just need to reload all my stuff.

so when i reboot, it deletes all the files from the zune device, but, does it delete them from my library too?? which choices do i have to "reboot" or "restart" or something without it affecting the library itself??
